Now in Canary, the Settings are not hidden in a hamburger menu:
This is interesting because is very similar to how the Settings work in the new Edge...
And thanks to a new flag there is a better animation when moving the NTP icons:

Google is currently testing a new personalization menu for the NTP in Chrome Canary, one of the new options of this menu will be the possibility of hiding the shortcuts, but above that option and next to "My shortcuts" appear the "Most visited sites":

A new flag that recently appeared in Canary also suggests that these tiles could return:
Many users didn't like the change that Google made in the NTP, icons instead of tiles, we will have to wait because currently this new menu is not functional, something normal in these early stages.
