In my opinion one of the best features that Chrome is testing now is PiP, right now I use it a lot in the Canary version, some will find it useless, but for me it is one of the most useful and expected functions, I remember that some time ago there was an extension that enabled that feature, but it stopped working after a Chrome update, the fact that now it will work natively is excellent, I have seen some articles that recommend installing an extension to enable this function, sincerely I find it much easier to simply right click on the video and choose "Picture in Picture", I don't see the need for that extension.

I know this already works in other browsers, but I only use Chrome and Edge, I hope that the Compact overlay will also be implemented soon in Edge.

You have to enable these two flags:

If they are already enabled, I would not know why it doesn't work.

PIP feature in Canary is very limited...

would rather have pop-out windows that resume in tab when closed.

Some people had complained about the change of position of the "new tab" button in the Canary version by default, although you could disable that new layout with some flags, well, the canary version was updated...
    Before:

In the "Dev" version you can still see that button on the left, not by default, you have to set this flag in "Refresh" or "Touchable refresh":

Or use all upcoming UI features:

Edit: In the images the close button is not visible in the inactive tabs due to a new flag that is only available in the Canary version at the moment, that flag is enabled by default, but I have it disabled:

Yeah it makes no sense to have it all the way on the left. So much more mouse movement when you have several tabs open to go far left to far right when opening a new tab. Also a big ugly thing I hate is when you first open the browser is the all white titlebar. What's up with that? I have to open a new tab just to get rid of the blinding white.
