About a month ago Google began testing a new option in the context menu that allows you to select a region of the page and then do a search with the image that results from that selection. Currently, when you release the mouse (after selecting a region of the page), a new tab automatically opens with the search results:
    Attachment 346363

But Google is going to change the way this feature works, and instead of showing up in a new tab, the search results will show up in the Chrome side panel (the same panel that contains the Reading list items and the bookmarks), this change is already available in the Canary version of Chrome:

In Edge you can do reverse image search in the Bing sidebar and you can also select a text and search for it in that sidebar, this new feature in Chrome is somehow similar.

Google is now experimenting with the side panel design in Chrome Canary:

This is what it says in the commit:
Add a prototype Side Panel border under experiment

This visually connects the Side Panel with the toolbar or bookmarks bar above it. TODOs are in place for making a smooth transition between the toolbar/bookmarks bar background and the COLOR_TOOLBAR that continues below.

This covers making the side panel visually connect to the toolbar above it to make it non-spoofable in the content area

Microsoft Outlook extension now also available for Chrome.

Microsoft released this extension some time ago, but it was only available for Edge, now it is also available for Chrome:
