Google will add a new entry in the bookmarks bar context menu that will allow you to hide the "Reading list" button.

The new entry will work the same as the item that allows you to show or hide the "Apps" button.
    Attachment 324437
This is what it says in the patch or CL in Gerrit:

Currently there is a flag that disables this feature, but you must remember that flags should not be used to customize the browser since they are temporary and eventually disappear, so it's good that Google is going to add this option that will be permanent.
The new item in the bookmarks bar context menu is now available in Chrome Canary:

But it seems that Google will move the "Reading list" button to the toolbar, so this new option might not be necessary in the future.

Currently the menu is small and only shows five tabs:

In the future the height of the menu will dynamically adapt depending on the number of open tabs and the height of the window, this change is already available in the latest Canary build:

(Open the GIF in a new tab to see it full).

    Update:
Another improvement, Google has added timestamps to the menu items:
    Attachment 322225
More changes to the "Tab Search" feature, the menu now includes a section with the recently closed tabs (Canary):

In Chrome Canary the Tab groups now appear as single entries in the "Recently closed" drop-down menu, so now you can easily reopen them.

Currently, when you close a group, each tab appears as a single entry:

Now in Canary, when you close the groups, each one of them appears as a single entry:

    Reopen group (GIF).
