    Why can't Chrome auto update itself or give the user a notification? I bet there are lot of people out there who never even think to go to settings/about Chrome and look for updates.

    Chrome does auto update. Looking for updates just speeds up the process.

    There is a scheduled task that goes looking for it. The update is automatically downloaded and the next time Chrome is started the installation is completed. I think this is the task.
