For some reason after update Tuesday I know get an "office" icon on my homepage for Edge and I was wondering if other people have it too as I do not use office and have not made any changes.
That icon is most likely tied to the Trial version of Office that comes with Windows installations.
thanks for the reply. I get the same thing though on old machines too. It wasn't through Windows Update that I got it from as I first thought, but updating Edge to version 123.0.2420.97 is when I first noticed it.
I got it after the last update. I use:
New Tab Start Page
The only time I see it is if I clear private data via a third party extension which used to display it's own third party start page when data was cleared. Now it just displays the page that you describe with the office icon so something has changed.
Depends on several of your Edge settings, you just have to go through them. At least these three categories.
Privacy, search, and services.
Start, home and new tabs.
Extensions > Manage Extensions.
They can, and do, add extensions. They added Google Docs Offline to mine fortunately they can be removed.
I have no system mods or Edge mods.
I am still getting the same issue. If I right click on the icon https://www.office.com/ I see that people are checking it with Virustotal on a regular basis.
To check if you have the issue ,disconnect from the Internet, and open edge, and you will see the annoying icon.
I'm hoping that the next update to Edge will get rid of the icon.
I managed to remove the icon , hurrah !
Basically going into settings ensuring quicklinks is off AND show promoted links is off too.
The latter can sometimes be greyed out in the on position Just persevere in the area and you will be able to change it to off assuming this is what you want to do.
