Creating new gmail account - verification "number used too many times"

Been creating new gmail accounts for our church this afternoon for new functions. Used my mobile number to received the verification code. Trouble is that it's been used before and today Google rejected it for that reason. Eventually managed to get round it by using friend's numbers (then changing them once account created).

During the account creation process there seems no alternative to verifying by SMS message.

Have I done something wrong or missed something somewhere?

You can use another Email address for the verification code.
Manage your google account > Personal info > Contact info > Recovery email.

Do you really need a new account, You could create a alias in gmail and receive the emails in your current account.

Agreed. A fabulous service, and as much as I object to Google's business model and methods, I'm happy to use this free service for the NFP organisation for which I volunteer, if Google want to offer it to assuage their social conscience.

I use a 'Passkey' for all my Gmail Accounts.
