windows mail backup and contacts import

previously i used outlook 2010 for my e mail.
with this programme i was able to export a .pst file to backup my e mails
does windows mail have a similar backup feature or how do you backup windows mail e mails

i also previously exported my contacts with outlook 2010 as a .csv file
is there any way of importing them to windows mail

    thanks

The Mail app is limited and has no full backup method. At best you can export individual emails.

Please note that MS states that this year the People app, Calendar and Mail app will all be replaced by 'New Outlook'.

With MS having repeatedly withdrawn its mail client from Outlook Express on, I long ago gave up on using MS clients.

"does windows mail have a similar backup feature or how do you backup windows mail e mails"

You can only save each Email as an EML file.

"i also previously exported my contacts with outlook 2010 as a .csv file

Not directly, however you can import CSV contacts file in to an Outlook mail account via Webmail and sync that to the People App which is part of the Mail App.

The Mail App is a simplified Mail Client, reliable yes, but not the facilities/features of the Desktop Application.
New Outlook is currently even less compatible and missing many features.

You need to get yourself an email program that is not going to incompatibly continually change between versions of Windows and/or versions of the software itself.

All email is synched and stored on the server if you use the IMAP mail configuration.

I use cheap licences for more recent versions of Office and save key emails as either a .msg or .pdf file.
