Thunderbird loves Junk folder, should delete messages instead

I make much use of TB's custom filtering of incoming messages, to either delete or direct into specified custom folders. TB always puts into Junk folder some messages that it clearly simply obviously definitely should delete. If you are a TB user who custom filters, I would like to know whether you too experience its poor filtering performance.

In the privacy settings go to Junk and check "When I mark messages as junk" and then check "Delete them". I have never had messages go to junk folder with these settings.

My Junk folder is empty- I don't think I've ever altered any settings related to it.
And like you, I have mail rules configured.

That is and has been my setting.

Given that filters apply to the Inbox, it occurs to me that perhaps some messages already have been tagged as junk by Microsoft's servers by the time that they reach Thunderbird.

Indeed some messages contain header "X-Microsoft-Antispam-Mailbox-Delivery:" whose long value ends with "JunkEmail".
