Edge broken after I updated it today

I just updated Edge on a Win 10 laptop to 122.0.2365.63. Edge will no long display any web pages, including edge's own pages like settings & help etc. The message is "This page is having a problem. Try coming back to it later. You could open a new tab or Refresh this page. Error code: Out of memory". Refreshing produces the same page. Opening a new tab produces "Not enough memory to open this page".

According to taskmanager I'm using 21% of my 32GB of RAM. Running ccleaner to clear cookies & cache etc does not change anything. I've also tried rebooting, opening in a private window, repairing Edge installation via the control panel, & running a SFC (which was all clear). No joy.

Interestingly, Edge will work just fine when run with Sandboxie! Anyone else experiencing this, & if so, did you find a solution? Not sure if it's relevant but I updated Edge after restarting the computer following successfully installing KB5034843 (now on 22H2 build 19045.4123).

Try repairing Edge. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features then find Edge. Click on it then select Modify. That brings up the repair option.

Hi @Bree. I've actually already tried a repair via the control panel as per my post above, like everything else, it fails. I've reported this in the feedback hub. Others are starting to report this on Wilders & Eleven forums now too. I've ruled out KB5034843 as the catalyst by updating Edge on another laptop, without installing KB5034843. Edge is now broken on that laptop too.

Edit @Bree - just tried another repair but this time via the Apps page in settings as per your way, instead of via the control panel. Unfortunately a repair this way hasn't fixed it either. I'm interested to see in your screenshot that you're running the version in question. Is Edge opening normally for you?? Everyone else who has replied to my posts has reported it's broken for them too. You'll be the first to report otherwise if ithis version is working for you.

Personally I create profile backups anyway.

    Settings opens fine.

Very interesting @Callender Someone on eleven forums is reporting it working but getting the same message when several tabs are open, & then it is 3-4 tabs affected only.
The only pages I can get to work are edge://flags & edge://version. Absolutely nothing else will load at all. It won't even load when opening an inprivate session.

Just tried downloading a fresh copy & installing. Still broken, but it downloads the same version.

UPDATE!! Nails89 on this thread relates this issue to "enhanced web protection" being enabled in privacy settings. I have this enabled, as well as strict instead of balanced. I can't load the settings page & don't really want erase my settings & data by altering my Edge user folder in AppData as per the linked suggestion, so instead I downloaded a batch file from option 4 here (since I can't load settings): Enable or Disable Enhanced Security Mode in Microsoft Edge Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum

This worked! Edge will open & work as normally. However as stated on the tin, it greys out some of the security options in settings, so you cannot alter them. I then tried downloading the batch file in option 5, which resets it to the default setting of being back on. Broken immediately after installing this. I can recreate this, so clearly in my case, the breakage relates to having ehnaced web protection enabled.

For others with a working version of Edge 122.0.2365.63 - do you have enhanced web protection enabled?

No, mine was turned off. I've just turned it on (as Balanced) and Edge continues to work normally.
Edit: switched to Strict and got your "Not enough memory to open this page".

Fortunately I was testing this in a VM, so I can just go back to a previous checkpoint to undo all the changes

Thanks @Bree. Someone else has confirmed the same, & then breakage when it's re-enabled. I've updated the feedback hub so hopefully MS will find the prob & fix it. In the mean time I'm scrambling to disable that setting on all the machines in the house, before Edge receives an automatic update in the background.

Wise move hehe. I still find it interesting that broken installations will load perfectly well under the supervision of Sandboxie, even when the setting is enabled. Unfortunately you cannot update the browser or settings & have them stick once out of Sandboxie again. Changes remain in the sandbox only, rather like your VM.

    Fixed in new build 122.0.2365.66.

On my machines with broken build 63 installations I updated via a repair option in the control panel.

On non-broken installations I updated through the internal updater, after putting all my security settings back to what they were (i.e. selecting strict instead of balanced in the security section (NOT the tracking protection section) re-enabling "enhance your security on the web"). For reference I'm signed in to Edge with a MS account though I do not sync any settings.
