How to export contact list from mail app to outlook

    Running Windows 10 version 22H2

Looks like Microsoft are forcing Outlook on me now, so I've registered all my email addresses on Outlook but Outlook has an empty contact list. I can find where to import a contact list to Outlook but I can't find where to export my contact list from Mail. Assistance would be appreciated.

Hi, how do you export contacts from these?

These very limited apps do not provide any direct or convenient means of exporting their data.

The Mail app uses the People app for contacts.. this tutorial from the searchable Tutorials section might help... I gave up on MS email clients after Outlook Express and then Winmail were binned.

From the first link you provided: "While you cannot directly export your contacts from the People app, you can export your contacts from Outlook.com to a CSV file and then import them back and/or import them into other email apps such as Gmail or Yahoo, or other versions of Outlook."

They're going to retire Mail and force me onto Outlook but give me no method of transferring my contact list? That's crazy. I'm a little taken aback by that.

And thank you for your reply.

That, alas, is part of the penalty of using these simplified limited apps rather than a full-featured 3rd party email client... or perhaps the full version of Outlook.

It's been known for a long time that Mail data cannot be conveniently transferred.

I did hit the thumbs-up button but received the notice "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to dalchina again." If I came across as a little exasperated then it wasn't aimed at you.

Thanks for going to the trouble of finding that, but in the meantime I've discovered that the inability to export my Mail app contact list is not the disaster I thought it was. Outlook has uploaded all my conversations so I went through them and populated the Outlook contact list. I'd be interested in any recommendations you might have on a good mail app. Thanks for all your help (I find it frustrating that the tenforums algorithm won't let me give credit to those that deserve it just because I've credited them before! I mean... who else am I going to upvote when you're the only person taking the trouble to help out?)

    No worries (as they say!)..

I've been with Thunderbird for some years, but also use a lightweight free/paid program called Pop peeper to pre-process mail.
That sits in my tray and periodically scans my accounts and flags up new mail, then I delete and reply using Tbird, leaving Tbird to receive email I want to keep or haven't looked at later. Both are linked to the same spam filter program.

EMclient should be worth looking at.
