    tabs question

my wifes laptop uses chrome and i have it set when chrome open to open 2 tabs yahoo news and yahoo email. but when she clicks on the + to open another tab yahoo opens again. and i just do not see a way to open a blank tab. it is not in extensions.

when i open a tab on this pc i see the yahoo icon in the search on the left side but i do not get the complete yahoo page.

    thanks

I don't use Chrome but there should be a setting somewhere in the browser that lest you define that, it won't be an extension. If you can search in the settings tab then search for "Tab"

Failing that the alternative would be to set the homepage to something basic and then set your tabs to open to the homepage. I don't think this will be the case as most browser should be able to open blank tabs.

ok i did a chrome reset and that failed so i uninstalled chrome and reinstalled it and that failed. so the next step is to delete all browsing history and see if that works. i removed one tab that opens automatically she had yahoo home page and then a tab with emails and still if i click on the + to open a new tab i still get a yahoo page that kind of looks like the google page when you habe google as your default browser.

it may be she has the home page as her tab but when i removed that setting for what to open when chrome does open that should have went away.

it has be baffled as i have set up hundreds of pcs and this is a first for me. now i'm running win10 deep virus scan to see if there may be a bug that causes this.
the first is her pc what opens on a new tab the second is my pc what opens on a new tab

In Chrome, try Settings > Performance > Speed then turn Preload pages OFF.

(Note: You can get to this by entering chrome://settings/performance into Chrome's navigation bar... then just scroll down to Speed.)

    Close Chrome then re-open it.

(This is a guess... I don't use Chrome.)

nope that failed. it is possible that this is in one of the new updates from win10. it is not a huge issue but it confuses her when she opens a tab and then she starts clicking on items and has no clue then i wind up fixing it. so i'm trying to save me some work down the road. i tell her not to but that goes in one ear and out the other. i guess i can make me the admin but then when she needs to visit a sight i have to mess with it again. been there done that.

ok now i have a real issue. for some reason the clock got out of sync, she could not log onto her medical insurance website. it turns out the time was off but it showed the correct time and date on the lower right clock.

i could not get the time zone set when i right clicked on the lower right clock. it let me change the time but not the zone. so i had to go into control panel clock and finally got the clock to change zones.

then before i did that i uninstalled the last window update back to 2-15-24 and then after i got the clock set and working i went to updates and started to do an update. it told me to restart and that was an hour ago and it is not doing anything. it is blue screen and tells me to wait. the lan is flashing but the hard drive is not flashing so it is not installing anything. so at 1pm now it is 12:50 pm i will restart it and see if it starts if not i will just reinstall windows. this is becoming a nightmare.

ok update i had to shut it down and then when it rebooted it made me reinstall the pin. it forgot that and windows sent me a activation code . boy this a mess. and i still have that yahoo tab showing yahoo. so for not i will let a sleeping dog lie. if anyone knows of a fix drop me a note and i will give it a go but in chrome i reinstalled it turned off the sync cleared all data did a reset did a restore everything but a format and reinstall from the iso. it may be in yahoo. but i did reset that back to basic also, so like i said i have done everything i know. thanks
