    Stopping Edge!

    Damn Microsoft!
How do I PERMANANTLY stop Microsoft Edge from running?

I have gone into the Group Policy Editor & DISABLED:
    1. Allow Microsoft Edge to pre-launch at Windows startup, when the system is idle & each time Microsoft Edge is closed
    2. Allow Microsoft Edge to start & load the Start & New Tab page at Windows startup & each time Microsoft Edge is closed

I've also gone into Services to STOP & DISABLE:
    1. Microsoft Edge Elevation Service (MicrosoftEdgeElevationService)
    2. Microsoft Edge Update Service (edgeupdate)
    3. Microsoft Edge Update Service (edgeupdatem)

But everyday (sometimes multiple times a day), when I open Task Manager, I see multiple Microsoft Edge processes running.
    Why is this happening?

Curious. All I can see is
    MicrosoftEdgeElevationService & edgeupdatem
    - and they're stopped.

I've done nothing to Edge particuarly. It isn't my default.

    One edge policy
    HubsSidebarEnabled - false - I forget why.

Because Edge loads with windows by default. If all you want to do is stop it frombeing a pain, you can use the portable utility below then reboot. It won't bother you anymore. Block both Edge and webview. If you ever want to use edge in the future. just deselect them in the utility. Me. I prefer to gut edge like a 20lb salmon.

Wouldn't a 2 lb. Rainbow feel as good?

Seemed to me Edge slowed down a lot a few updates ago- not that I use it normally. Plus MS added some popups and prompts. Not going in the right direction.

Agree, it certainly has become more frustrating to read the articles presented by the news on the Widgets that only open in Edge, frustrating is having only half an article presented, never find the end of some.

As well as the 3 Edge Services that need to be stopped and disabled there are also 2 Task Scheduler entries relating to Edge updates that also need to be stopped.

I've always stopped and deleted them but you need to check from time to time because they sometimes 'magically' reappear and re-enable themselves, usually after an update - same with the 3 Edge Services.

I temporarily re-enable the 3 Edge Services when I want to update Edge and then disable them again.

After every Edge update (and the monthly cumulative Windows Updates) I always check to see if these Services have been re-enabled and the Task Scheduler entries have returned.

Thank you for all the replies everyone.
I did find a registry tweak I'm going to try, hopefully that will help.

Thanks for the information & link. I'll try it out if the registry tweak doesn't work out for me.

Do you happen to know where I should look to find the 2 Task Scheduler entries?

    Hi,

I go through the "old" Windows 10 Control Panel.

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler >Task Scheduler Library.

They should appear there. Here's a screenshot of mine (with the Edge entries removed, of course). I haven't deleted the two entries showing there (Epson and Samsung) because they always recreate and enable themselves every time I use the programs associated with them, if I leave them disabled they don't do that.
