Secure sites crawl no matter the browser.

    Windows 10 Pro 22H2
    19045.3570

    Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19052.1000.0

I have just about had it trying to use my windows 10 pc on secure shopping/banking sites. Even if I turn the antivirus, firewall, and all plugins off, navigating a secure website is like pulling teeth on this machine. I have tried SIX different browsers and all behave the same. I have an old Windows 7 pc which behaves quite normally with FireFox browser. I don't dare bank with a Windows 7 PC. There's something in the Windows 10 set up creating the problem. The PC wasn't like this when I first set it up and it behaves well as long as I'm not logged into any site where $$ may change hands. Amazon is the only exception to this, it works fine. I delete all cookies, history and browsing cache when closing my browsers so that's not it either.

I have run multiple virus/malware scans. I have tired turning all background programs off. I don't use wifi, my connection is hard wired. I'm really starting to think this behavior was caused by an update or a badly configured service. I'd appreciate any advice.

I am using Chrome, FireFox, Edge, Brave, Opera, Epic. The behavior is the same across all.

Welcome to the forum. With out knowing all specs it's hard to say. Is it just certain sites or are all sites the same how do you connect with cable or WiFi and what is your download speed

I said i don't use Wifi. My specs are listed under "My Computer "

As I said, it's secure site where I shop and bank. Regular sites are fine, even ones I have to log in to.

I'm not sure why you moved this to browser/email. The problem occurs across six different browsers which I think definitely proves it is an OS issue, not a browser issue.

    I have used:

    Firefox

    Chrome

    Opera

    Edge

    Epic

    Brave.

All behave the same way. It's a Windows issue, not browser/email. Turning all the secrity off helps some but doesn't make things behave the way they should.

I'd appreciate it if my post was moved back to the "General" forum where it will be more visible.

There's nothing wrong with my internet speed. The only problem I have with this PC is trying to do secure online shopping on any site except Amazon.

My system details can be found my clicking on the box that says "My computer" at the left of your screen underneath my details

The PC is not old I bought it in 2020. I've been using PCs since the late 1990s and I built several XP and 7 boxes.

I used a registry hack to turn off the Security Center WSCSVC completely. It went a long way clearing up the issue across all six browsers. Obviously I can't do my banking with this service shut off.

attached is an image to help you find my system specs. I used another PC, not logged into the site, and clicked on "My PC" and it brought up my specs just fine. i don't know why you can't see them. This is not an old obsolete PC and it accomplishes all other tasks w/o issue. Microsoft messed up something in an update. Secure sites crawl no matter the browser.-spec-2.jpg

Banks and secure sites mostly (always) require an independent channel to know: is it you? Often a code is sent to your smartphone. Is that what you mean by secure? And is your browser not accepting such code? Please specify better your problem. Or is it a cookie problem by browsing in private mode?

Nope, that has nothing to do with it at all. When I need to enter codes for my banks I get them via email and the sites accept them without problem. I have never had an issue with that My banks do not have my cell phone number.

    >Or is it a cookie problem by browsing in private mode?

    It's not that either.

The problem, very simply is: SECURE SITES ARE SLOW ON ALL BROWSERS.

I finally found the answer and it seems to be a common problem. The solution is RESET THE NETWORK.

    Here are some links:

So it had nothing to do with browsers or email, it was some sort of network configuration problem. Some people report the problem started after an update which is what happened to me.

I used to frequent the Seven Forums(member since 2010) and always got a lot of help/good tips there. I'm surprised no one here had heard of this issue.

If you mean with secure sites https URL's I am amazed that you did not have problems with nearly ALL sites. At present it is rather difficult to find only http sites. In my opinion secure sites have a second channel to identify you, including banks and various shops.

Nope. Read the links I posted -

    Quoting:

"Secure websites are performing very slowly. All my banking and any other Https sites. slow on both Edge and Chrome. Dont believe issue is local network. CPU usage remains low. sites either fail to respond or take many minutes to resolve. Could Windows10 updates be causing this slowdown. it just looks like some process somewhere is getting in the way of normal performance. Really noticed this starting in the last 2 weeks."

    And

"About a month ago windows loaded an update . Since then most banking and secure website load very slow of time out. Banks of America, Chase, Morgan Stanley , fidelity etc. Sites say no problem use another browser, had very limited success fire fox, chrome, edge . On PC windows 10, all browsers are up to date. Refresh page some times works to next page sometimes not. some error security connection failed.

    Any suggestions."

    End quote.

Windows did an update yesterday and I had to reset the network again because the problem returned after the update. Microsoft's update is the source of the problem. Odd that it happens with all shopping/secure sites except Amazon.

Final note :This was a NETWORKING ISSUE It had nothing to do with browsers or email. It was resolved finally disabling the Killer Analytics Service. If you have one of those cards turn that service OFF. It's more trouble than it's worth.
