How to empty all bookmarks in The latest Edge - -Nov 2023

I want to try Edge again and the bookmarks are most likely those that were in IE when Edge was first out. I have searched how to remove all of them for hours over two days now and all help I found must have been from earlier versions of Edge. I have beaucou bookmarks as such I am trying to delete them all and get a good list from Firefox as I was able to do for Chrome and Brave.

    Ideas please

    Go here in Edge:
    edge://favorites/

Then click the top level folder in a section
In the right pane CTRL A to select all
    Click Delete

Repeat if any other top-level folders and for the Favorites Bar as necessary.

    Shouldn't take many attempts.

    See e.g. (5) here:
Microsoft Edge Favorites Tips - Sort, Bulk Delete, Search and Hide Favorites Bar – WebNots

    OR

    Possibly (not tried):
    Go here using file explorer:
    %appdata%\..\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\
    Look for
    Bookmarks

    Move/rename that.

Note: the location of this seems to have changed over the history of Edge.

So I search for bookmarks and get:

It seems that there are per profile bookmarks if configured.

Also there is a difference in the paths:

    C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default
    C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Profile 7

Note the \ in the second path. MicrosoftEdge vs. Microsoft\Edge

    and MicrosoftEdge\User\ vs. Microsoft\Edge\User Data\

As @dalchina suggests: Try backing up the files just in case then rename them.

Also I don't use Edge much and use a local account to sign into Windows. If using an MS account there might be some sort of browser data sync going on.

Maybe someone else knows more about that possibility.

Yesterday I wasted time trying to to find "edge://favorites/" in file explorer, Everything (search) and Windows search :). This morning I woke up and put "edge://favorites/" on the browser. A few minutes later and all is good...very good.

Many thanks to all for the helpful ideas.

Many good ideas may come when lying in bed.. and "sleeping on it" can certainly help!

You mention using Everything.. reminds me of one thing I did, having found some guide no longer accurate about the location of the 'Bookmarks' file... I used a 3rd party search tool to find 'Bookmarks' so as to find the correct folder for the current build of Edge...

The easiest way is to right click the favorites icon in the toolbar and select 'open favorites page'. CTRL +A . Then select delete. Bare in mind they will no doubt appear again at a later date.
So click on your personal icon top right and select the 'manage profile settings' which is the cog wheel. Select sync and turn off Favorites.
