    thunderbird question

so I changed back to thunderbird since windows mail is now forcing outlook on us and I didn't like outlook for various reasons.
but what i notice now with thunderbird ,every time I open it , it starts downloading ALL my emails ,every time ...
    what's up with that ?

PS. got 5 accounts in unified inbox folder ,if that matters .

i mean it wants to download 12000+ emails every time i open the app?
after i installed it i let it run through the night so it can finish downloading, but every time i open app again it starts fresh ...

See Tools, Account Settings, Server Settings, uncheck Check for New Messages.

Google is good at questions like that:

This is how I have it set up... so as not to download messages when I launch it.

I have several email accounts - so I then decide when to receive messages using a particular account.

You then also need to choose whether to leave the messages on the server after you've collected them with T/bird, or leave them and mark them read.

I don't have that problem as I use POP3 for my 2 Gmail accounts in Thunderbird.

    ok figured it out
settings - account settings - synchronization&storage (for each account) - uncheck "keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer"

UPDATE: ok that doesn't seem to work either ,although its not downloading all messages anymore , it now doesn't retrieve messages when app is closed . so that's no good...

    deleting TB,problem solved
