Windows Mail to new Outlook offer

My wife uses Windows mail and gmail , She only reads/send email from her computer which runs latest version of Windows10 (22H2) .Recently she got an offer to try new Outlook as replacement for her Windows mail. When I tried to test out new outlook as replacement , I get the offer to sync to icloud. I dont see a need for her to do this because she only uses her computer to read mail and not cell phone or any other device. Can I proceed top try new Outlook without synching to icloud? Her Windows Mail uses Comcast server ( imap) .

Will the new outlook function as a proper email client without synching to icloud?

    Thanks

Outlook does not sync with iCloud. Was this in a email that she got?

Actually, it's asking to sync data to Microsoft's Cloud (OneDrive). I don't know the answer to the question. I can see that once you get that message regarding syncing to the cloud, you can cancel and then click on advanced setup which allows you to enter server specifics for your email account. Unfortunately, don't know if this approach will by-pass syncing with OneDrive. Maybe someone else on the forum might know.

Outlook does not sync info with Onedrive. It does allow you to save attachments and grab attachments out of Onedrive. There is nothin nefarious going on with Onedrive to have it connected.

So I can proceed without synching to icloud and enter current server specifics by using adv. setup. The last thing I want to do is to mess up her email and not know how to recover.

In that case, forget about Outlook (and its possible OneDrive connection/association) and install a stand-alone 3rd party email client like Thunderbird (freeware), or emClient (free for up to 2 accounts)

As mentioned by you, if it's a IMAP account then the mail should be stored on the Comcast email server and the new email client will automatically sync with the IMAP server

Alternatively, if as you say she only uses the computer to access her mail, Comcast should have a web based portal to access the mail (just like GMail, Yahoo, outlok.com, etc)

Is OneDrive installed on the computer? Is there an icon in the bottom-right corner, next to the digital clock? Also check by clicking on the arrow up, next to the digital clock.

Do you use OneDrive at all?

If it's there, unlink your PC from syncing to OneDrive:

She does not use one drive at all. I think best solution is to forget New Oulook replacement for Windows Mail and use 3rd party email client like Thunderbird . Tks for all the inputs.

Yep, good idea. Problem is with MS products, despite the settings you choose now, it's not uncommon for MS to reclaim the (default) setting(s) it wants, during some update(s), without consultation/warning.
