@Callender - when did you last clean install - and when you did, was it a standard clean install- nothing unusual?
And presumably you've not 'removed' IE...

I'm wondering if there are two cases somehow- with and without the option, depending on ?????

    Thanks.

I didn't remove IE. As far as I know a Windows Update removed it (or disabled it) earlier this year.

It's not been removed or disabled- MS's intent was to leave it present if something still needed to invoke it - old progs e.g. from what I read. Still there and usable..

    @dalchina

I'd forgotten that I had disabled it myself.

Ah-ha... so what we need is a consensus from those with 'unsullied' installations..

I suggest you establish some facts - do that before making any changes.

    1. Check the stability of your connection first (above).

    2. Check its speed e.g.
Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test
or whatever company offers this locally - repeat that at different times, note results.

What sort of internet connection are you using?
Mobile? Copper wire? Optical fibre...? .....
    Hi, I am back.
My internet connection is called Home Internet Gateway, and the speed is always evaluated perfectly from the internet provider test.

For my PC the checkbox is marked, but I still cannot open Internet Explorer.

May I ask how you're trying to open IE - please post a screenshot. Thanks.

Just double-click on the IE icon or using the code: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extofff from Callender's hint at #20. Both do not open IE.
I can only have this screenshot

    Win key + R
    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

    &

    work for me, for example.

As you say you've done a clean install, and presumably have no 3rd party security programs, that seems a curious difference... except that reports exist such as this:

Your browser is not supported | usatoday.com

    - saying that it will be or has been disabled, and that there should be no remaining icons etc to be found...
(and my Edge is up to date)
