Getting Warning about Tor Browser - Help Needed

Hi guys.. I installed Tor. But when I start it up, I get this warning from Defender:
    protected folder access blocked

Why is this happening? I've had no issues before with Tor and now Defender warns this about it.

    Looking forward to your comments!

The latest update gets flagged as a trojan by Defender. You can try installing as portable to get around the controlled folder access issue. Install somewhere like C:\Portable Apps\Tor Browser

Currently if you want to use it you'll need to restore the executable from quarantine and add an exclusion.

I don't know why you want to use it but you could just use Tor network on Windows.

GitHub - dragonfruitnetwork/onionfruit: OnionFruit™ Connect - Tor access client with country selection, bridge configuration, pluggable transports and experimental DNS support

I use it to stream region locked content. (do not use for onion sites).

    Have a read:
connection - Tor Browser stopped by Windows defender Controlled Folder Access - Tor Stack Exchange

Do that or install it somewhere else.

It's likely a false positive but until it's been investigated nobody really knows. If it is a false positive it should be excluded from Defender's definitions when updated at some point in the near future.

And how do I install is as a portable?

Well maybe you shouldve asked. I want to use it to go on certain restricted sites.

Yeah I never use it on onion sites.

Looks like those guys from the link you posted allowed Controlled Folder access which may leave the PC open for some potential attack from Tor. A no no.

So as I asked before, how can I install it as a portable or install it in some other place?

    Looking forward to your reply.

On install you just choose the directory. Create a folder somewhere (outside controlled folder access locations) and install it there,

If you're just using the Tor browser for everything else other than going to onion sites, you can use a similar feature in, for example, Google Chrome's browser, called "incognito". I'm sure all the other big browsers out there have a similar feature. They are much more safer than using the Tor browser, because the Tor browser opens the possible attack on your computer from hackers out there.

    FYI:

Install somewhere other than the locations mentioned here:

Think twice before deploying Windows’ Controlled Folder Access | Computerworld

Or add exclusions. Or disable Controlled Folder access entirely.

As @pepanee said there are other privacy focused browsers. I also linked a method of using Tor network on Windows that works with any browser.

Then you might look at Brave browser. Personally I don't use it but did try it in the past.

Brave.com now has its own Tor Onion Service, providing more users with secure access to Brave | Brave
