    Eudora 7 closing

G'day, this is my first post on this forum, I'm an old guy, well in my 80s and am starting to feel that technology is outstripping my knowledge more and more as time goes by. Anyway, my problem is that for years (at least since windows 95 ) I and my wife (who is not very techno-savvy) have been successfully using Eudora as our email client . Having upgraded both computers and Eudora without any problems until recently on hers. About a month or so ago, all of a sudden (perhaps after a win 10 update - currently Win 10 22H2 Build 19045.3448) when I start Eudora on my wife's (Thinkcentre) desktop, it seems to start Ok then a small dialog box flashes on (not enough time to read its full contents but I think it starts " an unhandled exception......" a couple of seconds after which Eudora closes. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing latest available download, same result. Also tried installing it into its own folder C:/Eudora7 - same result. So I'm stumped what do I do now? meanwhile all is fine on my desktop (Optiplex 790 Win 10 22H2 Build 19045.3324 ), Eudora 7 just keeps on working
While you may suggest using a different e-mail client, I'd be OK with that, but the wife would have great difficulty changing to something she's unfamiliar with

    Hi, welcome to tenforums.

Eudora development stopped in around 2006, it seems, as I guess you know. Mentioned in the context of Windows 95/98, /which I recall using... so not intended for 64 bit O/S's.

    Download:
    Download Eudora 7.1.0.9 for Windows - OldVersion.com

I installed it and it works on mine, except - unsurprisingly- Help cannot be accessed as it uses an old format considered a security risk.

I accepted the default install location.
Also tried installing it into its own folder C:/Eudora7
    - not recommended.

My build: 19045.3448 - same, so suggests the problem is not related to that.

I've not used compatibility mode or added DEP exceptions, for example- nothing special.

    Just FYI:
Solved: running Eudora 7.1 (very old) in Windows 11 Pro (22H2) | Windows 11 Forum

Suggest you run some basic integrity checks on your wife's PC..
Start as usual with disk (s) : Hard Disk Sentinel is excellent - giveaway may be available, portable version available- just run it, look at GUI. Tab on left for each disk.

If ok, then from an admin command prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan
Look at the end.. if ok similarly run
    sfc /scannow

Now look at the Reliability History- look for a Eudora crash- red X - expand detail in the hope of finding something useful. There probably won't be.

    Check the RAM (tutorial available).

Try a clean boot (Tutorial available, or Google) and try running Eudora.

You could try using a 3rd party uninstaller e.g. Revo or Geek Uninstaller to uninstall it completely (including remnants) then reinstall... however if you have stored email, account settings, contacts etc, you will need to secure that data first.

G'day again, ploblem solved Thank you for advice - something I read in it gave me a "light bulb moment"

Fixed it using something I should have tried earlier - Compatibility, Even though it was previously working fine on Windows 10, seems that for some strange reason it now needs to be set compatible to Windows 7 Just another of life's little mysteries. -
