Anyone can stop Youtube from previewing videos on Edge?

    Hi,
I learned something about Youtube when I was on vacation. I was on a cellphone plan with limited data.

I noticed after using Youtube on the Safari browser, it had used up a tremendous amount of data.
And I only watched one or two short videos on 240p, and Youtube used up 1-Gig!
I suspected the culprit was the video previews. Because I was doing lots of browsing on Youtube's main page. I suspect youtube download the videos in high resolution before you even click on it!

I notice on Windows Edge, YouTube also aggressively preview videos. Is there a way to stop this?

    Thanks!

p.s. I already tried to disable the "Browsing--inline playback" in Playback-and-Perfmance setting.
    But it didn't work.

Maybe this only works if you are a Premium Member?

Youtube videos don't use a lot of data. Do you have data that shows it specifically as Youtube being the culprit? you would need to watch like 1000+ minutes of video time for 240p video to take 1gb data.

Looks like a good app for my iPhone. But one of my subscribed channel (news) won't play. There is an error: "format not supported.

And on the PC, it looks like it won't go higher than 720p resolution.
In Windows, I have trouble playing

It's not an app. 720p resolution is the highest available. Correction. See posts below.

So if that's a problem use it to search for and preview videos then open the YouTube link.

    Example:
costa rica 4k hd - Invidious

Open video and click "Watch on youtube"

If you want an app that used Invidious there's FreeTube but configuration might be an issue. Also it has 1080p limit for playback. Or at least for me anything higher breaks it.

Send a link to the problem channel.

    I stand corrected. Open preferences.

    Preferences - Invidious

    Or use the settings cog.

Set DASH. (See items in red boxes)

I don't get the DASH option. I only get: 720, medium, small.

Does it have anything to do with that fact I am on the Australia server?

Yes it does. So use another instance. All instances are separately maintained and may not have the same features or work in exactly the same way. Usually if I encounter a particular problem with one instance, the fix is switch to another instance until the issue has been resolved.

Try the instance I linked earlier or find one nearer with the option to change video quality.
