There may be a cleverer way, but to multiquote, I copy and paste the opening and closing control sequences.

Also, how do I preview a draft here before I click on 'Post Quick Reply'?
When editing the reply, select 'Go advanced' below the edit window. That shows what you have done so far, as it will appear, with the editing window beneath. Hit 'Preview' to see the effect of changes.

@mngerhold, Thank you, but what are opening and closing control sequences?

There is a multi-quote icon on the bottom right corner of a message but I don't know how to use it.

Also, I just tried and clicked as you suggested on "Go Advanced". It asked that I need to ask permission from an adult. :-(

@bofhlusr - I'm at a bit of a loss, mainly because I don't use Windows as you do... so have no experience of either Microsoft Accounts (MSA) or the Edge browser... and Google searches have brought up no useful results.

In my experience, a corrupt user profile can have unexplained consequences. The test for this is to use another account or create a new one solely for testing. It sounds like you have the same Edge issue with both your @outlook.com and @gmail.com Microsoft Accounts but unfortunately you didn't fully answer my previous Q6 about using @Brink's tutorial to switch to a local account. Did you try? I believe it's necessary, if only to see whether using a local account results in different behaviour in Edge.

You mentioned a recent Edge update... but my understanding is that Edge updates itself automatically all the time. I checked my Windows 10 Pro 22H2 test laptop and I'm using the same version of Edge as you. I had a look through its myriad settings but couldn't find a relevant one to turn off the You'll need to ask to use this site prompt.

Also in my experience, browser issues can appear after installing a misfunctioning extension.

Q8. Have you installed any recent Edge extensions?

    Hope this helps...

I avoid installing optional extensions (unless it's installed by some program and I'm unaware of it). Here are the extensions listed in Edge and my Windows version:

    -windows-version-8-30-2023-12-05-44-pm.jpg

Good point about logging to a local account. I'll do that now. To borrow a quote: "I'll be back".

Try toggling ALL the currently active extensions to OFF then reboot and test Edge again... just to rule out the extensions.

Another test is to temporarily install another browser, e.g. Firefox and visit here again. This will show whether the issue is browser-related (as opposed to account/profile-related).

    Hope this helps...

I'm now logged in to a local account (see picture below), and not having problems. The asking for permission issue is gone.

Apparently the problem is in my @gmail and @Outlook accounts. How do I convert the @gmail account to a Local account since the option is not available to me (see previous post)?

    FAQ - Multi Quote

Also you can open the post that you want to multi quote - right click "Quote" and it opens in a new tab.

Copy the post (All text between
=member name and
Then close the tab. Paste the text into your reply. Do this for each post that you want to multi quote.

    Example:

Hi, I'm back this time using Chrome. No issues with Chrome. It's not asking me to ask permission when clicking on Tenforum's 'search' and 'Go Advanced'.This makes me think that the issue is strictly Edge related and it just started after the most recent update of Edge 2-3 days ago.

I'm wondering if I should uninstall Edge and re-install. I don't know if that's possible since it might be a core part of Windows. I used to be a Chrome user but switched to Edge because of it ability to save to .mhtml files.

@Callender, How do I do a selective multi-quote? I don't want to quote the entire message since that may be quite lengthy.

If there are 3 questions, how do I quote each 3 questions only and separately so as to reply to them separately in one post? @RickC did that beautifully in post #8 of this message thread.

Sorry but... if both your MSAs are affected but changing from an MSA to a local account ALSO made the Edge issue go away then surely that suggests it's MSA-related, not browser-related?

EDIT: I don't think it's Edge... 'cos the issue doesn't appear when using Edge under a local account. I suggest you look at the security settings of your @outlook.com account first. Apparently there's a 'Microsoft account dashboard' available... search for Get help with your Microsoft account.

As you are in the US, I think the URL may be:

    Hope this helps...

Selective mutli quote. Open each post that you want to quote in a new tab and copy and paste the desired text from each post into your reply in the original tab and then edit the text/ layout if you need to.

    RE: Edge

Check settings here: (copy and paste in Edge address bar - press enter.

    edge://settings/familySafety

I've never enabled that and I'm not going to. Here's what I see. You might see something that could be a clue to your issue.

    -settings-microsoft-edge.jpg

I'm going to guess that it might depend on whether you use a Microsoft Account or Local Account when logging on to your PC and whether you sign in to Edge.

How to Sign in and Sign out of Profile in Microsoft Edge Chromium

Like I said - just a guess and I cannot really help with that.
