    Quickie screenshot directions.

    1. Use the PrtSc key to take a screenshot.
    2. Open an image editor like "Paint", and click Paste > Paste, or Edit > Paste.
    3. Click on Select > Rectangular Select and drag a box around what you want to show.
    4. Click on Crop.
    5. Click on File > Save as > PNG picture and save it to somewhere like your desktop.
    6. Now, in your Ten Forums post, click the mouse where you want the pic, and then click on the Insert Image icon.

    7. Then click on.. From Computer > Browse (to where you saved the screenshot) > Upload File(s).

    8. You will then see something like this. That's your "posted" image.

Also, if you want to get someone's attention, either quote them or type their account name with an "@" symbol in front.
It will light up their Notification badge, at the top of these forums.

    Like so... @JRO

OK, so I understand you have a functional system but a couple of "cockroaches" crawling around.
Well then get rid of them bugs first!

Thereafter we can say we established that we have a solid base, a functioning OS.
    Good.

Now onto the next logical steps.
start not use one by one individually the apps you have an issue with.
nevermind a bookmarks, emails etc. are missing.
Do the apps run or do they have a problem?

Once you have that verified we can start looking at your "misconfigurations".

The whole steps I am trying to guide you through to find the culprit for this you I call:
"successive approximation to isolate [whatever] through elimination"

In the first step we "established" that the OS is running and apparently has no major issues.
That's our foundation to build on.
(Do understand that the Windows OS is equal to a Kabuki theater but with a few thousand actors where you get no documentation of the plot or storyline but yet you should keep track Who's Who doing What, When, Why and Where! If you lose oversight and one part of the scene stops talking or moving you have no clue why!)

That saved you from the way too often found ill-fated advice to reinstall Windows.
(IMNSHO; another way of saying "we have no effing clue in the first place but love to give 'advice'.[or sell you something]".)

Get back to me and let me know how your in question apps run by themselves, your Firefox, Outlook and whatever other app you have encountered difficulty with.

Time to replace the corrupt Outlook.pst file with a non-corrupt copy.

I happen to have a copy of the working Outlook.pst file on other media. I copied it to a thumb drive, C:\Users\duck_\Downloads\Down__Documents\Outlook Files, replaced the file marked Outlook.pst.corrupt, opened (app) Outlook, and IMMEDIATELY, it changed the name of the new file to Outlook.pst.corrupt (without changing its Date Modified).

Is there something I am doing wrong by replacing the Outlook.pst file by a file that was working? How else can I do this?

    oops...you'd already responded...interestingly...

3.1 Close MSOffice Outlook Can't open; can't close

3.3 Copy it somewhere safe. can't do, but do have older May 31, 2023 Outlook.pst files and do have a file in pst copy folder
3.4 Delete or zip up the original so that there is no outlook.pst in that original folder at all Didn't think of zipping.
3.5 Run MSOffice Outlook Response is same as above: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open..."
Just noticed that the error seems to think there's a file named Outlook.pst in directory ...Down__Documents\Outlook Files\Outlook,pst

And run MSOffice Outlook again...same error message

It seems there is no OfficeRepair tool for Office 365 Outlook note:

All of this makes sense to do, but
I'm kinda lost at this point. I can't find a tool that repairs Microsoft 365 anything!
I guess I could just REMOVE Office and see if I can reinstall it but I think I'll have to involve Microsoft in this.

    Careful JRO!

"Too many cooks spoil the broth". While many here mean well and have knowledge, if you don't approach the recovery of the repair steps systematically you can unintentionally create an even bigger problem for yourself or just simply walk by what you could have perhaps solved.
So no radical impuIsive "surgeries" Dr. McKoy!
    Be logical!
As mentioned before, let's go step-by-step. We have the foundation, the OS is running and presumably clean.
Now let's go to the next tier building all up.

Microsoft Office (usually includes Outlook) repair:
Try and run Office FULL repair ("ONLINE" Needs internet connection).
Open up "settings", select "Apps" and enter "Microsoft Office" in the second box.
Once your choice shows click on it.
    There will be 2 buttons.
    Click on "Modify".
A window will pop up with the title "How would you like to repair your Microsoft 365 and office programs?
    Select "online repair".
Let it do its thing, it will let you know when it's done.

Now try open your Outlook PST file.
If it still has a problem try to repair the PST file.
    Follow these repair steps

    LMK

scroll down the Apps & Features until you see Microsoft office

    JRO,

I think I have understood you correctly. Your file was shown as Outlook.pst in File explorer then you ran MS Office Outlook and that filename in File explorer had been changed to Outlook.pst.corrupt.
I am astounded. I have never seen that or heard of that before.

I have no idea whether MS Office Outlook or its pst file is at fault.
In these strange circumstances I would do both these steps:

    Try3 said:
4 If Outlook itself seems to be OK i.e. it opened that new, blank pst file without complaint, run ScanPST on the original pst file and then put it back in its original folder.
Repair Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost) - MSSupport

Repair an Office application - MSSupport

    Correct.
The MSSupport procedure does not refer to any 'Office repair tool'. The link on that page under Running Repair didn't help. Now what? is to an 'Office uninstall support tool'.
    - That EaseUS article you linked to seems, to me, to be out of date. It does not mention anything later than MSOffice 2016.
    - I appreciate that it is your decision but I would stick with the MS guidance instead.

    All the best,

Only got this far. Opening the Start menu and navigating to [Microsoft 365 Office] I encountered another strange [Microsoft 365 Office] entry, this one with a greyed out [Modify] button. I engaged the new entry and clicked on Modify (which ungreyed), then selected "online repair". and...it indicated it was repairing...the Microsoft Suite???
Anyway I was about to try and open Outlook.pst when I realized that clicking on an [Outlook shortcut], in fact every Microsoft Office product shortcut had been disabled...so I called it a 2AM night.

This morning I turn on the computer and am totally unexpectedly greeted with:
    Titanic-reinstall-office.png

    followed by
    Titanic-office-reinstalled.png

I guess I should be thrilled??

Sorry, are you saying that your apps list had two MSOffice entries?
