copy and paste issue with firefox or....

Maybe with windows 10 in general, tho i can't recall if i only experienced it with FF. In any case heres the issue. If i copy something then want to paste it into google to do a search, when i right click to paste the paste function is greyed out so i can't do it. But if i go elsewhere like to the browser's address bar and right click it will no longer be greyed out and somehow just doing tat and not even pasting it now works when i paste into the google search field. Maybe thats unclear so heres the exact way i go about it...

1-after i copied something i right click in googles search field but paste is greyed out
2-go up and right click in the browsers address bar and paste is now active, tho i don't paste
3-go back down to the google search field and i can now paste

Thats just one scenario. I have had it happen in other scenarios trying to paste in other fields besides the google search. Any ideas whats going on? I have tried virus apps and they find nothing. This just started happening at some point a couple months ago and i never changed anything i am aware of.

Hi, I can paste into either of the two search fields with no issue.

I assume you're referring to the lower one.

You could try Firefox in its safe mode (Google how if you don't know).

If you do this in another browser e.g. Edge- does it work for you?

Doesn't do it every time so i don't know about other browsers because when i have tried and it worked that tells me nothing unless i use that browser for a few days. It can go for days with no issues then do it a lot. The other browser i have has none of the features, addons or bookmarks so i don't use it aside from experimenting or troubleshooting. But when it's intermittent i don't wanna use it for days w/o all my bookmarks and features. I was just hoping someone here has seen and fixed this issue before.

And thank you for your reply.

As you're not willing to try what I suggested, I can only wish you good luck.

Maybe get the installer for firefox and run it to do an "over the top" install of firefox.

    Try another search page:

    Code:
    google.com/webhp?
Restart Firefox without addons to test if one of them might be the cause.

It can't be the addons, as I have been using the few i have forever and haven't touched them or added any new ones. Thats the thing.....i haven't changed anything and this just started. Last time i updated FF was i guess 8 or 10 months ago and this just started in the last month.

That's no reason not to try the suggestions and what happened when you used the alternative google link that I posted.

Also if you have not updated firefox and have also not updated addons or blocked them from updating then there might be issues where updating them could possibly provide a fix to your problem. Add on updates are released to provide fixes for known issues or to add/ remove features.

Personally I would not expect a non updated browser to work perfectly for ever.

It's not at all hard to restart Firefox without addons enabled. It just takes seconds. And reinstalling over the top might not fix the issue bit also takes just minutes.

Your best bet would be back up your firefox profile to an external drive or USB and unplug it. Then uninstall firefox including removing leftovers (includes program folders and profile folders).

Then reboot. (Important). Then grab a fresh copy of firefox and install it.

I notice a similar effect: right click copy does not work in FF. I wonder whether it is some safety feature during private browsing. Using the menu bar (edit, copy) copying always works, so for me it is not considered an issue.

It works fine for me in a private window. I just tested.

I will state that if you regularly auto update firefox eventually after many upgrades something is likely to screw up. Firefox always benefits from an occasional clean install.
