Rude interruptions by McAfee anti-virus & Yahoo

The last several consecutive nights, every time I’m on a certain news website, I suddenly get rudely interrupted, usually by a McAfee anti-virus warning, or sometimes I somehow end up forced onto Yahoo News site. How can I stop this from happening each & every night? I had already let my McAfee Internet security software expire a couple years ago, as I find that Microsoft’s Internet security software is good enough for my Dell PC, so then I tried uninstalling McAfee from my PC entirely, but the rude interruptions keep persisting, which is so annoying to me personally because it takes over my whole web browser and thus causes the news website to refresh when I click to go back to it, and I DON’T want it to get refreshed at all! How the hell can I STOP such rude interruptions by McAfee & Yahoo?!

Any attempts or efforts to help me with this very annoying problem would be tremendously appreciated – THANKS very much!

Which news site? Try removing push notifications if you previously clicked "Allow" them for that site.

Thank you very much to both of you for those suggestions. And sorry about taking so long to reply here. We had an electric power outage that started roughly at 5 AM Saturday morning (Eastern time in USA) and lasted quite a long time. Anyway, again, thanks very much.

    1. Ctrl+Alt+Delete and start the "Task Manager" ( TM )
    2. In Task Manager checkout the "startup" environment and uncheck anything you do not want running on explorer loading. Anything odd.
    3. In the TaskManager checkout the "Processes" and "Applications" catergory and end anything that looks odd. Be aware certain processes are needed. Just look for anything odd.
    4. If you find something ( entry/term ) odd you could use the "search" / "find" function to look for the item, and right click it to see the file details. Sometimes the detail of files are off, even more so the date, but sometimes you have to manually delete files.

    5. In taskmanager you could use the File -> New Task ( Run ) in which you could run anything including the explorer or an program and or application, bat, etc, etc, if you have the proper location and or command. You could also setup any program in the command-line in advance and run it from Windows-Key + R -> typing in the program/app/command

Services.smc - checkout odd services that should not be running. This turns on and off various services/processes/apps etc
Taskschd.smc - checkout anything that should not be operational. Basically an alarm clock you could set it up to run any file.
Regedit - after searching the above you should be able find any entries related to stuff you do not want running.
!! The Registry is the core of the operating system akin to the OSX Library, Like the operating system brain !!

After doing everything above you might have to search manually, for locations of files that is on your computer causing the problems. Like files disguised as other files and so forth with odd names.

    Process-Hacker - a Replacement for Task Manager
Smadav - a new anti-virus buster on the block with tons of definition
Norton Anti-virus - even till this day my XP finds new definitions.

    @Daymin

You're missing the point. If the issue is push notifications the user's system will scan clean.

I tried disabling push notifications, but the rude interruptions by McAfee anti-virus & Yahoo persisted for a couple nights or so. Then somehow, before I could try another of the suggested solutions, the very annoying interruptions stopped, and have not been experienced for at least the last few nights in a row.

Anyway, thanks again for all the efforts to be helpful!

I forgot to mention that it was Google Chrome in which I tried disabling the push notifications, which I'm pretty sure I managed to do correctly, as Google Chrome was the web browser in which I experienced the rude interruptions.

Then you need to check what is in your allow list rather then just blanket blocking all notifications. Or block all but still check the allow list and remove any problematic sites.

If the website responsible for displaying the unwanted notifications is already in the Allow list, remove it:

Click the More actions icon () to the right of the domain name that you want to remove in the Allow list.
Click Remove. The website is removed from the Allow list.

More here. See screenshot of "allow list"

Allow or Block Website Notifications in Google Chrome in Windows

Copy this into the address bar and press enter to see sites that you have given permissions.
