Gmail resize the side panel

Is there a way to manually resize the width of that side panel, or can it only be done with an addon, Firefox and Chrome?

Only with an addon. You could try out tampermonkey, or if you have less knowledge in html etc try out Resize gmail sidebar by cloudhq. Also - if you click the little ? at the top right in gmail, and then click Send feedback to google, click Suggest an idea

Just what I was looking for in terms of operation, but is there a version or something else similar for Firefox. I can't find one.

Works great in Chrome.

Perhaps we can confer with Judi Dench?

I was puzzled when I read this post. I resize my left panel (and every other panel) simply by dragging horizontally or vertically.

Then I realized the OP was referring to mail.google.com

I haven't used the site for over 10 years.

I use the free Thunderbird to manage five gmail accounts in a single dashboard. The icon lives permanently on my taskbar.
