Isolating a Gmail search to the inbox

If I do a search for a specific email sender, can it be done to only apply to messages in the inbox?

Click on any folder you have in the left panel and search will; Suppose you pick Sent then the search area will say in:sent.

Among other tasks, I use the search to clean up my Gmail storage. I want the search bring up "Inbox" results only, not results from folders I have moved emails to.

i use an email client rather than the web portal.

    Anyway try this:

Use advanced search (click advanced search)

Then change Search > All Mail drop down list to Inbox.

Thanks. I initially checked advanced, but it wasn't readily apparent to me. No drop down arrow indicating more choices.

What's your email client of choice. I've been waiting for the spare time to set up Thunderbird.

emClient free. Limited to 2 free accounts. I get round that limit by by importing a webmail account that can collect emails from several accounts.

I'm not suggesting that you should do that.

Anyway if you click here it should expand. Maybe they've changed it.

Yes, I was distracted by the middle arrows above that field. Didn't look to the right
