Yahoo mail "offline". How to restore back to online?

I have Win 10 Pro 64 bit. AT&T is my ISP. They use Yahoo mail. I also use Outlook mail. When using Yahoo, it very often goes "offline" or a popup says "No internet connection"and then nothing works and there is no way to get back online to access my messages other than to re-start the computer. This happens almost every day. Even though Yahoo mail is "offline", Outlook which gets all my mail from ATT/Yahoo's server still works just fine. Also, I use two computers every day. Even if Yahoo mail is 'Offline' on one, it is ok on the other (most of the times). Is there a way to restore Yahoo mail back to online so I can see my messages without resorting to re-starting my computer(s)??

    Try a different email software.

Bro67, i just tried Microsoft Edge. It worked ok and i could see all my ATT/Yahoo messages. sent a test message and received that also. however, the actual ATT/Yahoo message page still says "no internet connection" and still can't access my mail from their own website page. does that make any sense?? seems like the ATT/Yahoo is the only one not working correctly!

i just realized that MS Edge is a browser that i have also installed ATT/Yahoo mail on. I usually use Firefox browser all the time. don't know if a browser or the mail program itself is causing the problem. if i have internet for all of the websites i visit using Firefox, why wouldn't the ATT/Yahoo mail be the only one NOT working while using the same firefox browser?

Edge is not email software. You also did not install ATT/Yahoo on it, you visited a website. You now have to pay to be able to sync Yahoo with say Outlook which is a CRM software. You used to be able to use the att imap server and smtp for att's email with Yahoo. Personally I would use a gmail account or outlook for email vs Yahoo.

Yes i realize Edge is a browser just as Firefox is. I have Outlook mail and i had to pay for it to have my mail transferred from another email program about three years ago. I have been using Outlook email program for three years, i'm not very knowledgeable about email programs other than the fact that ATT is my ISP and they use Yahoo's mail service. All my mail is secured by Outlook by pulling my mail from the ATT/Yahoo server. The problem i'm having on an almost daily basis is that Yahoo mail stops working because it says "Offline" and/or "No Internet Connection". This will happen on one computer and not the other one and Outlook mail is not affected! I use both computers constantly. The only way to 'fix' this vexing problem is to restart the affected computer! Shouldn't there be a way to fix the offline situation other than resorting to restarting my computer?

That is because as I stated before refarding to how Yahoo works. You need to either use Thunderbird with the att mail servers or use a different email provider that does not do this. Also you fo not have to pay to move email providers.

To recap: Yahoo mail fails on one of my computers but not the other one. Outlook works fine even on the one that says I'm "offline" and/or even though it says I have "no internet connection" all my websites work as they should even on the 'affected' computer! If I really did not have any internet connection, NO websites would work. This makes no sense to me as the only fault I see, is that Yahoo mail just stops working. I've tried Thunderbird in the past but it has lousy storage capacity! I just need to find a way to fix the offline situation and get it back to online. If there is absolutely no way to fix this problem, I guess I'll just have to put up with having to shut down the PC and restart it to 'fix' it unless and until someone, somewhere knows how to, without restarting the computer!

Again you will need to either use Thunderbird or move to a different email provider for important emails. I use google workspace for important stuff, gmail and icloud for junk and throwaway email addresses. Spark email client on my Macbook, because I stopped paying for Office and it would exhibit the same behaviors as you are getting with Yahoo. Worst part is that you have to run in the "New" interface in Outlook if you do not pay a subscription.

So, it looks like you are saying that the Yahoo email problem in not fixable. I agree that it's a lousy email program which is why I use Outlook 99.8% of the time. However, since my ISP is AT&T and they use Yahoo mail, I'm stuck using them if only to get all my messages off their server. I used to use what I consider the best email program ever developed (Incredimail). After 13 years, Incredimail just closed up shop and I was forced to find another email program that was better than Yahoo. I had to pay to have everything transferred from Incredimail to Outlook. Not happy about that but had no alternative. I've tried other email programs but Outlook seems the best to me. That's what I'll continue to use and suffer through the inconvenience of having to shut down my computer to temporarily 'fix' their problem! BTW, Yahoo doesn't even have a Chat to speak with one of their techs in an attempt to fix the problem. I'd have to spend money to talk to a tech rep by phone which would probably only end in a 'Dead End'. Since my hearing is severely compromised, that's not a viable option! Besides that, why should I have to pay to fix their problem?? Thank you for your time and offering your advice.

    A workaround not a fix ...

Clearly no one is going to respond to you with a fix for this problem. I'm also experiencing the same issue sporadically on a W10 Pro desktop using the Firefox browser. I feel your frustration at being told to switch to another email client/service etc. It's not helpful for people who don't know anything about the problem to make such suggestions. In my case, I've been using Yahoo mail for decades and I want to keep the webmail. I pay for the premium service which makes this all the more exasperating. I have business, family and social contacts that only know this address and I use other email systems and clients for other things. I want to get this problem solved the same as you, I don't find 'helpful' suggestions that do not include a fix to be useful.

All of that said, I've found a workaround that serves much better than doing a restart. The computer I'm typing this on is a fairly powerful system but it does a LOT of things and so it takes a while to get back to full functionality after I click the restart button. No doubt some well meaning ignoramus would suggest an SSD drive (I have two, the root drive and a mirror image of the root drive for emergencies) or not loading up so much stuff etc. They don't use a computer for all the same things I do and while they may be well meaning their suggestions are just dumb and unhelpful. So ...

When Yahoo mail shows the "No Internet Connection" popup box click on anything else in the Yahoo controls under the address bar. "Home", "News", etc. That will force a re-connection to the Yahoo servers. Then click on "Mail" to go back to email. The email connection to Yahoo will be reestablished and you can proceed as normal. Watch what opens because this may load another tab with Mail in it. You can close that tab and just go back to Mail in the original tab.

I know this isn't a fix. I don't know that a fix is possible because this is something that is happening at the Yahoo servers, not on our machines and not in our browsers. It's a common complaint, there are tons of hits when doing a search for this issue. I suspect this is a "green" measure by Yahoo and I personally hate that sort of thing. It's no one's business how much electricity I use. It might also be a cost saving measure to close open sockets on the server. Whatever is doing it, it's a genuine PITA and the hopes of getting Yahoo to fix it are about zero.

I'll keep looking for a real fix instead of a workaround and if I find one I'll come back here and let you know. I'd appreciate it if you'd do the same. Good luck.
