Yahoo mail "offline". How to restore back to online?

Here's something I forgot to mention that may or may not throw some more light on the Yahoo address bar situation. If I click anything OTHER THAN mail, there is no problem in changing the connection. It's ONLY when I try to re-connect to 'MAIL' that it goes into a loop!

Use Windows 10 Mail client.

Click the setup button, click setup yahoo! and type in your yahoo account name and password.

I use Outlook. No reason of changing it because it works just fine. It's Yahoo mail that is messed up! Thank you for trying to help.

A network adapter is an Ethernet or fiber optic hardware device inside your computer. You don't need to open the computer to change its settings. The network adapter is what you plug your CAT-8 Ethernet cable into on the equipment you have. It's controlled by software and that software is called a 'driver'. You need the latest driver for your network adapter to be installed but Windows 10 probably already did that for you. I assume you're running updates from Microsoft either automatically or manually as they become available. If you're not doing that, you have a much, much bigger problem than keeping Yahoo Mail connected.

You will NOT have to remove, unscrew, connect, disconnect, open, close or otherwise physically handle any of the hardware. We're going to use the driver software to do this and it will all be done with your keyboard and mouse.

I'm going to tell you the steps you need to follow to turn off the power saving feature on your hardware network adapter. If you're not comfortable doing that, and you don't have anyone handy who is, you probably shouldn't be messing around with computers because this is some very basic stuff.

1. RIGHT click the network icon at the bottom right corner of your screen. If you're not on a wireless network it will look like a little computer screen with a plug-in at the top left corner. Make sure you right click it, not the normal left click. When I tell you to click something with the mouse I will not designate which mouse button to click unless it's a RIGHT click.

2. A menu will pop up when you right click the network icon. Select "Open Network & Internet Settings" and click on that. That will open a window that says "Settings" at the top, "Home" directly under that and "Status" in big letters just to the right of Home..

3. On that Status page look down or scroll down until you find the words "Advanced Network Settings". Directly underneath that you will see a line that says "Change Adapter Options". Click on that. That will open another window with all your network adapters in it. It will say "Network Connections" at the very top of that window. If you don't do anything but what I say, you can't hurt anything so don't worry if it looks complicated. If you want you can do the next step with anything in that Network Connections window just to be sure you get the right one. Doing this will not hurt anything on your computer ...

5. There can be more than one network adapter icon in this box. That's OK. There can be software adapters for lots of things but we want the hardware network adapter. RIGHT click the icon that says "Local Area Connection". That's the most likely to be the one we need. Select "Properties" and click on that. Near the top of the box that opens up you will see a button that says "Configure" under the name of the adapter. Click on that. Another box will open up that has several tabs on it starting with "General". Look for a tab at the end of the tabs that says "Power Management". If you don't see a Power Management tab you've got the wrong adapter, close that and go to the next one to try again until you find one that has a Power Management tab. Again, you can't hurt anything by doing this.

6. When you find the network adapter that has a Power Management tab. click on that tab. Uncheck everything in that box. All those things do is put your network adapter to sleep and/or wake it up. We don't want any of that stuff to run so uncheck everything.

7. Click "OK" and close all the stuff you opened. Go back to using your computer.

Hello Frostbyte, I checked the drivers the other day. All of them are up to date. As per your recent message on network connections, I got as far as #5. I did NOT see any icon that said "Local Area Connection" (see snip). At this point I have to stop until I hear back from you. Thanks

If that's the only one there is, then that's the one you want. If there's nothing else there, that has to be it, doesn't it?

I told you it doesn't matter if you get the wrong one, just find that Power Management tab. If there's no Power Management tab, then you're not in the right place. You haven't changed anything so just close that out and keep going until you find a Power Management tab. It will only be on a hardware setting. Try not to be overly worried about this stuff. There's no "Explode my computer" button anywhere on your system. I promise. Really.


From what you've said otherwise, I don't know if this is going to fix your problem or not. I'm not sure what you mean by the phrase "caught in a loop" either. You may have a problem other than just the Yahoo Mail "No Internet Connection" issue because the workaround I told you about works 100% of the time for me.

If all else fails, close Firefox. Wait one minute and open it up again.

If it's still doing it, something else is wrong. You might need to check your file system. That's easy, much easier than changing the network adapter power management settings. You might need to flush your DNS Resolver Cache. Could be other things too. Do the power management setting and then see if it keeps happening. If so, get back to me and we'll go on to the next thing.

Frostbyte said "I'm not sure what you mean by the phrase "caught in a loop" either". What I meant was that when the mail icon is clicked, it tries to connect but never does (like the wheels just keep spinning but gets no traction).
I've attached a full (new) snip of the network connection. What other place would I find the 'power management tab' ? I'll try to close and reopen Firefox and let you know what happens. Thanks again.
