    Why do I have to constantly sign on to use gmail. All the suggestions that I see do not work.

    Invest some time installing and setting up thunderbird. After proper setup there is no need for you to sign in.

    How are you logging in? Browser or email client? If browser then you need to store cookies if Google allows you the option of "stay logged in." Something I never do and don't recommend. Especially for a shared computer.
