A beautiful desktop background appeared in EDGE can I keep it?

Remain where? If it was the physical desktop for Windows, it stays as long as it is a part of the Windows OS package.

I really want to keep it!
Can a Forum member tell me how to keep it from going away?
Prior to this I just had a plain flat blue colored background.

Those are not backgrounds, they are a part of the webpage. A website can get that media from anywhwere.

The background images (and sometimes videos) on the Edge new tab page will change daily. It is possible to find the web address of the image/video that is being displayed, but it's not 'novice-level' stuff I'm afraid. Right-click on part of the image and select 'Inspect'. This will open the F12 Developers tools and the url of the image should be found in the 'Elements' section. You can right-click on this and select Copy > Element, then paste it into Notepad to read the url.

Ifhe takes a screenshot he can keep that as his background, providing he hides his icons first.
