    RE: App Password

Hi Folks, I normally use Gmail. I sometimes save them in .EML format. To re read them, I added an outlook.com account to the Windows Mail and Calendar App. My Outlook Security is a second email, my phone and Google Authenticator App.
I was having account trouble so I was advised to change my password, which I did.
I got this in an email:-
App passwords need to be updated.
You recently changed your password. As you've turned on two-step verification for the Microsoft account *****@outlook.com, you need to create new app passwords for any apps or devices that don't support two-step verification. Any existing app passwords will no longer work.
What action do I need to take? I do not have any Apps requiring a password.

That appears to be a generic email response to your changing the password, just in case some thing do not function correctly telling you what you may need to do.

So first off. Can log on to still everything and get all your email?

    If so you all set.

    RE: App Password-outlook-error.png

I don't use the account to send or read email. I just use it to open .EML files

I did notice my phone number was missing the leading 0 but corrected it.

I have the outlook account on both laptops win 10 & win 11

The email client does not care why you are opening it it still needs to verify who you are.

So you need to setup outlook for 2FA after you changed the password. or if what ever mail tool you are using to connect to outlook does not have the ability to use 2FA then you need an app password.

Does the email application you are using (which I guess windows mail? ) to connect to outlook allow for the use of 2FA?

Did you setup Outlook to send your phone a text or some other type of 2FA verification initially?
And again after you changed your outlook password?

My phone number omitted the leading 0 so I fixed it.
I also disconnected from my outlook & my Phone the Authenticator then replaced it.
For some reason unknown, my mail app on my Win10 laptop never gave any trouble. It was only on my Win 11 laptop.
Not checked it prior to posting this. Will try it later & post results.

May no one ever need to change their Outlook password, that's what I get from this. Hope it works on your Win 11 pc.

Just to clarify: that warning was to make you aware that any email programs that don't support 2FA would need a new 'app password' (previously called an 'application-specific password', I believe). I use Outlook 2010, and that has affected me in the past.
