PDF files on my computer won't open in Edge

Since this morning, PDF files on my computer won't open in Edge.

Double clicking on a PDF file will cause Edge to load, but then it will immediately close. The same PDF files will open in Firefox and Chrome.

The strange thing is that Edge will open PDF files on the Internet; it just won't open PDF files that I've downloaded to my computer.

Clearing the cache in Edge didn't fix the issue.

I know Microsoft is switching to the Adobe Acrobat PDF renderer for Edge's PDF viewer. Did Microsoft screw up something in preparation for the switch?

Hi, please give your Edge version... obviously potentially relevant given your comment.

    I confirm pdfs open in

    The forum prompted you thus:

    - so we don't have to keep asking.

    Also potentially relevant here.

Since this morning, PDF files on my computer won't open in Edge.
    - have you considered using a System Restore point?

    I'm using Edge Stable.

The problem has seemingly resolved itself. The only other thing I did was change the default PDF viewer to Chrome.
