Edge update -- What am I doing wrong?

Clicking the internal links redirects to some very unhelpful pages on the Microsoft site.

    See from

Here’s how to reinstall Microsoft Edge whether you’re a Windows or Mac user:

    You might be lucky.

That error was seen with a much older build at one time, and was a bug then.

I've just updated to the same build shown in yours, though- which is actually up to date:

    Microsoft Edge
    Version 110.0.1587.49 (Official build) (64-bit)
Microsoft Edge is up to date.
Please confirm you're using the stable version of Edge, not a development one.

For anyone wishing to search for that error, I've screen OCR'd it:
Edge update An error occurred while checking for updates: We couldn't create that component (error code 1: 0x80004005 - system level)

    Definitely not a development version.

I have sync turned off. Could that be an issue?

    And thank you for replying.

Presumably although this is the latest build of Edge, the failure occurs when checking for (non-available) update. As such the suggestion in the link I posted shouldn't be needed, one might think, unless your Edge installation is damaged.

It may just be a temporary issue. There's no need to check for Edge updates manually normally.

Otherwise feel free to do the usual routine chkdsk, SFC checks anyway.

It seems this error is popular. Edge users experience the same error for a while.

    From one user's update:

Microsoft Edge is giving me random issues when I open Google Chat. It gives errors while updating the browser and shows problems displaying the Google Chat friends' profiles. Usually, we could see the email address and phone number of the Google Chat users while hovering the mouse over the username. But, on Edge, Google Chat is not showing the profile details. The frustrating news is that Chrome shows the Chat contacts' profile details. Also, Gmail is loading very slowly in Edge compared to Chrome browser.

    From that link:

The good news is that this doesn't actually affect the updater's ability to check for updates, so you'll still keep getting them. You just can't get them on-demand. We believe we've got a fix for this that you should see in the next day or two, depending on when your updater decides to run.
