Edge Chromium runs all the time...

Suddenly, Edge Chromium is running all the time. We don't use it for any internet or browser work. We run CCleaner after every internet session and it always pops an error message that EC must be closed to continue. I assume this is part of MS getting rid of IE11, but CC never had an issue with IE11 running.

It's in the edge options, you disable fast startup.

    Hello @jamis,

If you run CCleaner from a Script [ Command ] like I do, you could add an entry above it to close Edge Chromium first.

    I hope this helps.

Edge is no longer in the startup sequence. The popups when CCleaner runs have ceased, but CCleaner still finds Edge files to delete. This tells me W10 is still running Edge Chrome for some MS uses, but it's not left running.

I also don't use edge. I will monitor when I use ccleaner if ccleaner finds edge files to delete. And if so I will try to find a solution in Google search. I would come to this thread to report if ccleaner finds any files and if I have a solution.

Maybe it's a few non-large files and still the same. If so, nothing serious.

I am a real Edge user, it is the default.

There are several Settings that need attending to:

Settings > System and performance > System > Startup Boost > OFF
Settings > Start, home, and new tabs > New Tab page > Preload the new tab page for a faster experience > OFF

Also customise that to minimum content.

Settings > Edge bar > Auto open Edge bar when the computer starts > OFF.

There are pages of settings, go thru the whole lot.

Same principles unsurprisingly apply to the Google Chrome Browser.
    I don't use CCleaner.

No sign of either on mine whilst just running Windows at idle.
