    Search Engine?

Been using DuckDuckGo for a long time but over time, their searches have become less and less productive with numerous repeats of sites. Dumped them and went back to Google search only to find that it is now using a massive amounts of images in the search results and very inaccurate results. It is like they give me what they want not what I requested. I need lists of results not images. Is there a way to turn this off?

    - could you give an example, please, with a screenshot and the search string as text in your post? Thanks.

    very inaccurate results.
    - depends how you formulate your search string.

    its just how it is

i primarily use Duckduckgo because i like their standpoint they are good for the most part but sometimes they are not as good as Google, If i cannot find what i want there i use Google if i cannot find what i want there then its Yandex which finds really oddball stuff and sometimes better than Google etc.

make sure you have the engines whitlisted and not blocked if you use these sorts of extensions and ones like Duckduckgo work best with cookies so make sure you allow this for duckgo.

just going to call it Dgo now coz its easier. Dgo uses its own crawler and leverages from many various sources, it sources much of its information from Bing, which Bing sucks in SEO compared to Google because most people want to SEO for google as it has the biggest market share.

idk can't find it on Dgo use Google cant find it on Goggle use something else.. Yandex is a good one i find many oddballs there i cannot find on Goggle.

i guess try something else like startpage if you want baseline Google type results its google but with less trash and privacy in mind. Kind of like Dgo but it uses goggle crawler and algos instead of Bing etc.

give feedback to google and complain about images covering you entire screen instead of search results.
that's what I did, hopefully with enough complaints they could reconsider.

it's not only images, but news videos and image-like adds, some results are titled and grouped as "Top stories" and put at the top of search results.

but result it seems depends on search string, your search history and bookmarks.
    try searching for "test"

    EDIT:

Click on 3 dots to open...

Problem is that those top stories take too much space and I was not searching for news.

Well I agree with your 'test' -> Top stories...

I've NEVER seen that before, oddly enough - presumably because I use more obscure and targeted search strings....
Wonder if there's an option to disable it?

    @zebal
    test -"top stories" -"news"
    - appears to remove the section with images.

Another option is to use e.g. Adblock - extension

select the offending area, rt click, block it. Gone.

This may have other implications though...

It seems not even addon can help, I've tried element picker but the best you can do is hide stories, the frame which takes up space can't be selected and remains there wasting space.

and google privacy options, didn't test because I'm not logged in, likely all you can do is influence results but not completely remove it.

what's interesting, I tried again searching for "test" and the top stories are no longer there

    Please see amended post above..

Question was asked on Google forum, response => no way to suppress it, except maybe a blocker extension
