One only website links slow to open in Office.

I've also posted this on the Office Forum.

Windows 10 Office 2016, if it matters.

When urls from one, only one, website are copied to word then clicked to open it takes a full 60 seconds to open, while saying “Not Responding.”
Here is an example; this site and embedded link like this
    https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic..._Columbia.html

    Just a moment...

Copied into any other medium; email, whatsapp messaging, facebook, they work fine. Only in word (and excel) do they take a full minute to open. Every link, every time.

I've disabled AV, cleared cache and cookies, rebooted and tried safe mode; nothing.

Not sure what you are referring to.

Well, for me the TA link is very slow when opened in Word the first time, but subsequent attempts (even after closing and re-opening the word doc) behave normally. I have never seen this before, and I am afraid I doubt I can shed any light. But it would seem that Word is including something in its initial page request that TA takes its time over. I have confirmed that this delay occurs for other TA links I made. You are not the only one affected:

but no solution there. I am using FireFox, which browser are you using - does it make a difference?

A search reveals that the most common case of this type of delay is with ADFS sites:
    NetDocuments Support
but I don't even have the necessary Registry keys to try that tweak.

Well mngerhold, it seems you are smarter than all the others on various help sites.

I had not thought about it being a browser issue, nor had anyone else. Using Chrome, I switched to edge and that made no difference.

Within your link highlighted above was the alternative work around of hitting ESCAPE and that does eliminate the delay.

I can live with that until I can figure out a permanent fix.
I’m not one to mess with registry keys.

Thanks for pitching in and doing some digging for me.

It is not the browser at fault, it is the fact that Word has to check the link if it is malicious or not, then send the request to Windows to determine what browser to use while sending a outbound request to see if the site is actually there or not. It has always been slow to open a document since OLE started to be used. Convert the document to a PDF and you will see that the embedded link opens faster in any browser.

I am having the same issue with Excel 2016 32bit on Windows 10. I have done a vanilla install of Windows to make sure it was not antivirus or any corporate software. It happens on multiple laptops and no matter what network I am on. Tried Chrome, Edge and Firefox. All are the slow to open the links.

The original posters link is slow for me also and I have another link that is slow. https://www.directv.com I have been having my user with the issue use the ESC workaround but still trying to find the root of the issue.
