They have just concentrated on macOS for how the iDevices interact on that platform. Microsoft has decided to concentrate more on integrating Android and Linux into their OS. itunes is now known as Apple Music.
It's clear that MS is focusing on Android. However, we (me and the better half) have been both Windows and iPhone/iPad users for a long time now. Until recently, that integration was a no-brainer. I hate it that these two companies are in a big catfight.

No one is in a catfight, Apple has been using Cloud connection with various services for well over four years, they have been phasing out iCloud since before 2019 since it is mo longer needed to update contacts, calendar, etc.

It seems to me that each company is creating barriers for the other company. Microsoft has apparently aligned with Google, Apple's arch enemy in phones and tablets. Apple seems to want to punish people who use Windows instead of MacOS.

From Apple, this behavior is not entirely surprising. From Microsoft, now that it seems to be platform-agnostic, this is more annoying. Microsoft no longer has a dog in this fight. What would it really cost them, in relative terms, to add really good iPhone/iPad support? Bubkis. (Look it up.)

Sorry, Apple and Microsoft. It's a multi-platform world these days, and the genie will never get put back into the bottle.

Microsoft and the others have not aligned with anyone. No one is being punished for choosing the OS that they favor.

If Microsoft is "not aligned" with Google, then how can anyone explain the Android support, but not iOS support, in Win 10?

That may or may not be a good choice, and it is certainly MS's choice to make, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
