Problem With An Email Account When Updating Thunderbird

Firstly I'm sorry to have to write here but when i tried to register on the Thunderbird forum and I got a link to confirm joining, the link failed and the website asked to contact moderators but did not explain how to do so , driving me mad !
Basically I have an "aim" address which I have had since the days of Netscape Navigator. I use it via POP3 using Thunderbird that was on version 91.12.0 and then got updated to 102.1.2 the version from h*ll.

All my other email accounts (Pop3) work but this "aim" account will not. I get a message onscreen to check the authentication method. However when I try to set an account manually there is no option in the list for "Oauth2".

Thunderbird will allow automatic configuration for IMAP for this account but I would like POP3.
The attached pic shows my old settings for this "aim" address (aim is/was part of AOL) and wondered if anyone else has had similar issues
    Thanks.

A lot of email has now gone over to Oauth2 like gmail as its more secure so your only option is to use imap

Firstly, go back to the v91. You'll have to uninstall v102, download the last/latest v91 from here
    Directory Listing: /pub/thunderbird/releases/

Make sure you disable auto updates. Then run the manual update (Help > About Thunderbird) to see if there's any more later v91 editions, only (mine's 91.12.0 - I'm staying on 91.12 because so many of my add-ons haven't been updated yet)

When setting up accounts, OAuth2 is not always immediately available. When the basic configuration details are entered manually, run the "Re-Test" option, then go back and check the Authentication method options - OAuth2 now should be listed .

    Thanks for your reply.
I was able to do a disk revert back to version 91.12 the final version before the new one. I may stay with it but will have another try sometime to get the account setup on the new Thunderbird but I'm exhausted from my failed attempts yesterday.

I looked at my "aim" settings and it shows my account was opened in the year 2000 which would make it my first email account that I have.

    Strange
Authentication is required by the email provider, and not by TB.
I cannot believe that the provider requires authentication for a later version of TB and not for a previous version.
Something else must play a role.

I updated Thunderbird today to latest stable release and thought I would try again at trying the autoconfiguration tool.

Got told the account details were in Thunderbirds database and offerred IMAP as first choice with POP3 below.
However trying POP3 produced the same message saying I had to change the authentication settings for the account but did not say which ones !

Its strange that POP3 worked fine with this email address up to version 91, but not now.
Fortunately the IMAP option works fine and there will be people who prefer it to "Pop"

    One of lifes mysterys.

Today I got an automatic update in the v91 (or v92) series. I understood that this update allows an automatic update to v102 (or v103). Tomorrow I will see what happens and report back. I only want pop3 accounts on my desktop.

Its only the ONE account I have had difficulty with, and thats the one with an "aim" email address.
My other Pop 3 accounts from other providers are all continuing to work fine.

I just updated automatically from v91.13.0 to v102.2.0
No problem at all. That includes for provider 1 Authentication method OAuth2, and for provider 2 Authentication method Normal password (SSL/TLS,port 995). So it seems that use of a normal password is still possible in TB with some providers.
I suggest -as an experiment- to change SSL/TLS into STARTTLS and see what happens.
