Outlook Express not able to log into Gmail

My wife can't part with OE. Up until yesterday we had it working fine on Win 10 with Gmail via IMAP. There was an issue and she needed to change her Gmail password. OE won't accept the new password using the exact same server settings as in the past:

    imap.gmail.com:465
    smtp.gmail.com:995

Any suggestions on what else I can try? Thanks.

you may have to change a few things like i did to get thunderbird working with gmail, ie, Change the Authentication type from 'Normal password' to 'Oauth2' for your Gmail account(s).
Do this for both, the incoming server (POP), and the outgoing server (SMTP).
hope this works for you in outlook express!

See, for example, Callender #4 - another GMail 2FA guide - TenForums

There have been several similar discussions since Google tightened up their requirements on 30th May this year [and sent all their users an email about the change].
    Google said:
On 30 May, you may lose access to apps that are using less secure sign-in technology

To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google or other more secure technologies, like OAuth 2.0.

What do you need to do?
Email software, like Outlook 2016 or earlier, has less secure access to your Gmail. Switch to Office 365, Outlook 2019 or newer, or any other email software where you can sign in using Sign in with Google.

    Best of luck,

I can confirm you can use any reasonable email client with Gmail- but you have to go through the 2FA procedure via your browser to get an app password. (Yes, it's obscure and annoying).

Sign in using app passwords - Gmail Help

Once you have obtained the new password, you will be able to use that.

I've done this for both Pop Peeper (a small client which lets me scan multiple accounts periodically, read, respond - via Thunderbird) - and Thunderbird.

Does not look right to me or indeed the details given by Gmail Help pages.
If it really is Outlook Express that from memory was never IMAP capable.

Check Gmail through other email platforms - Gmail Help

Modern Email clients automatically put in the correct ports.

Doesn't have to use IMAP for Gmail.

I was able to solve the problem using the method linked by @dalchina. Thanks to all.
