PLEASE HELP: Microsoft Edge Starts Up With ALL Former Tabs Open...

    Hi all,

I've had this problem for a couple weeks now and it makes Edge completely UNUSABLE...

When I start Edge it'll literally open every tab and window that I had opened previously and this gets up to 151 in Task Manager in Edge's column. The problem is my PC only has 8GB of RAM so Edge just freezes and I have to "End task" it in Task Manager...

In the past, Edge would only open up 20-30 tabs and windows at start up. This was great because it was fast and I could easily open up the other Edge windows I wanted to open.

I've tried running "Repair" for Edge 10 times and the same thing happens over and over again when I start Edge.

    Thank you.

    EDIT:
I just had an idea: is it possible for me to install a beta version of Edge while still retaining my browsing history?

    Thanks for your reply.

But because Edge tries to open over 150 tabs as soon as I start Edge I'm unable to alter any settings and I just have to "End task" in Task Manager.

Control + w is deleting tabs.

So when edge starts with 150 tabs, you keep on press control + w and see if the computer keeps on deleting them.

I just tried "Repair" and it downloaded and installed a new version of Edge, but Edge still tries to open every tab I've left opened from my last session...

I don't know why it does this because in the past it would only open a few windows. I just tried the same thing with Chrome and it only opens a few windows, which is great...

I don't want to reset Microsoft Edge because I've got so much personal data in it...

In the past, I never had this problem because even though I had 100+ tabs and windows in Edge, Edge would only open about 20 windows and tabs like it knew that I had a limited amount of RAM: I only have 8GB of RAM.

However, now Edge thinks I have an unlimited amount of RAM so it tries to open every single window and tab... I tried repairing and installing the newest version just now but it still tries to open about 150 tabs and windows and because it uses up all my RAM and CPU I can't use Edge: the only thing I can do is "End task" with Task Manager...

    ..
    Bookmarks, extensions ?

Bookmarks will not be affected on a reset. iirc, Extensions only have to be reactivated and remain intact.

Could an extension be causing the tab issue ?

I don't have any extensions installed.

It's so strange because Chrome only opens a few windows when I run it while Edge tries to open literally every tab/window I had open earlier so it chokes my PC because I only have 8GB of RAM...

I'd say type this into the address bar in Edge:

    edge://settings/onStartup

then press Enter. Adjust the options.
