What the heck is duckduckgo doing?

I have my Firefox set to load duckduckgo..com with only the search box in the middle of the home page and nothing else. Been that way for ever until the last few days. I now get an extremely long page of duckduckgo advertising why I should use the very service I have been using for a long long time. I have to click the homepage button three times to get it to load my old homepage. You would think their efforts to create more business would be directed at those who DO NOT use their service - not the ones who already use their service. With my ocd, this just may drive me to find another search engine!

Might want to check your DuckDuckGo settings under the hamburger button on their webpage.

I "think" what you're seeing only happens for a few times, then goes away.
I remember that happening to me as well, but after 2-3 times, I never saw it again.

It could also be that they just run it that way, every so many days?

I've seen it with each update, usually 2 tabs showing and I close that one and go on, usually Restore previous.

GHOT, I think you maybe right. Have not had it show up at all today but still why spend 5 or 6 days aggravating me by trying to get me to use something I have used for a long time AND setting my homepage to redirect to the page they want me to see??????????

Now that, I can't tell ya.
They do have serious competition from Google ofc.
Maybe they feel like it's a "friendly tour" of DDG options?

I suggest configuring settings then copy the bookmarklet URL and set that URL as your home page or bookmark.

    Turn these ones below "Off"

Copy the bookmarklet URL and use that. Then if cookies are cleared it won't matter because you will be using the URL that contains settings instead of a cookie that contains settings.

Callender I reconfigured my home page settings as you suggested. The "turn offs" I have been doing from day one. Thanks

So if you use the bookmarklet URL then settings should stick even if cookies are cleared which is likely the problem.
