    Windows 11 and Internet Ex.

Having problems with Internet Explorer, trying to sign in Yahoo.com my home page.
Seems maybe IE doesn't find that site safe and refuses to open

Also I hate to try new things especially with Microsoft, unsure if I wont screw up everything I have by switching to windows 11
    Any advice welcome,
I'm very old and stupid re PCs

Hi, it's not 100% clear if you are using Win 10 or Win 11 right now.

The forum prompted you to specify your full Windows build (using winver) - so we don't have to keep asking and asking this...

Please try another browser e.g. Edge. Can you then access your site?
If you see an error message, please post a screenshot of that. (Tutorials available if needed). Thus:

IE is being deprecated very soon (some time after 15/6/22), although it will still be there should any old programs be hard coded to invoke it. E.g.

It's more likely that the webpage contains elements that IE cannot handle.
This is very common; most website developers left IE behind ages ago and don't bother ensuring compatibility with it.

So you have no real choice. You need a modern browser to use many websites.
    - You can choose which modern browser. I normally use Firefox and only sometimes use the built-in Edge.

Tomorrow's Cumulative update might be the one that will disable Internet explorer. But it might be next month's CU instead since the official date for the end of IE support is not tomorrow but the day after.
Watch the News section for a thread about the new Cumulative update so you can see what people report about it.
Added Wednesday 16th June - I have updated now and IE still works as it did before despite its "retired" condition. Perhaps it will be the July CU that finally inhibits it.

And you might want to experiment with Les' suggested workaround.

    Thanks for the rep,

I'm on Windows 11. I thought MS would have actually removed IE, but it's still there in Program Files(x86).

    However, clicking it opens Edge.

Does the LesFerch method in post #6 work in Windows 11?

It's probably still there in Windows 11 because the rendering engine is still required, Edge uses it when in IE mode.

Microsoft Edge with IE mode uses a unique dual-engine system, which lets you open sites with the IE engine or with the new modern engine.
