"Edge bar from Microsoft Edge" icon keeps reappearing in my start menu

    Hi Chaps,

Minor annoyance: Over the past few days (I assume since the last Windows update) an unwanted icon keeps appearing in my start menu.

It's titled ""Edge bar from Microsoft Edge" and no matter how many times I delete it, it always reappears.

Is there are setting with MS Edge that I can set to avoid this or, failing that, a registry tweak to banish it forever?

    Cheers,

    Mike.

Hi, perhaps this will help you deselect it:

How to Turn On or Off Microsoft Edge Web Widget in Windows 10

(The second is from the searchable Tutorial section here - I searched it for edge bar for you.. it's well worth while becoming familiar with the huge Tutorial section).

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions - I had a look through, but couldn't see a solution. In Edge, I have the Edge Bar disabled, but every time I start Edge, it re-adds the icon entry to my Start menu (see attached). There's no widget anywhere, just the entry in the menu...

I noticed you have a custom Start bar. So do I. I don't want extra clutter; only the stuff that I need.
So I did find this Registry file to Disable, but it's on the Eleven Forum. Don't know if it could apply to Windows 10:
Enable or Disable Edge Bar in Microsoft Edge Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum

    but maybe:
    1) Delete that icon again from your Programs list
    2) Apply that Registry file
    3) Restart the computer
    4) Open Edge
    5) Close Edge
    6) Check to see if it came back

    This is my Start Menu:

It seems the addition of these shortcuts is very new.
Microsoft's Edge bar can now be launched from the Start menu - YouTube

Another way MS is pushing Edge.

Therefore previous ways of disabling the Edge bar may have nothing to do with these, alas... but if you get lucky, do let us know.

Yep, the above registry tweak suggested by pepanee works perfectly.

    Thanks for that!

    You're welcome =)

I'm glad that solved the issue!

And thanks for the reputation comment; Much appreciated! =D

    EDIT (additional info):
    • Assuming if Edge updates itself, then it's possible that this issue could return. Then you'd have to re-apply the Registry Tweak from above again.

The same tutorial content exists in tenforums, and indeed was linked at the bottom of the main text of the tutorial I posted:
