    Using IE beyond June

So word around the campfire has it IE will be disabled shortly. I use it to manage my cctv system, because the plugins they provide didn't get updated to support something that newer browsers require - the details of which are immaterial.

My question is, is there some known means of making IE continue to operate? An older ie executable maybe? Spoof the date it sees? I've blocked edge and cortana at the firewall level and replaced their executables with write-protected dummy .exes. IE doesn't need to see the internet, but it doesn't seem to appear on the list in the firewall apps list.

    Cheers.

    Not directly.
Added later - But see LaunchIE - LesFerch #3 - TenForums

If the software is not changed to use another browser, it will not work after the death of IE.

Internet Explorer 11 will be retired on June 15, 2022 - TenForums

You might want to look into a thing that is apparently called MyIE.

An organisation I volunteer for as IT support has an older security system that provides remote images. The only access is through IE with the security company's proprietary plug-in that only works on IE ... as well as MyIE. But not on any other browser.

IE will live on in Edge.

Microsoft Edge is the only browser with built-in compatibility for IE legacy sites and apps.

See this and download if you like:

    Hope this helps.

The OP is not the first one to report specialist applications written for IE not coping with Edge.
    - I think some of the other reports I've seen in the forum also refer to CCTV applications.

As far as I can tell the iexplore.exe file has been rewritten to open Edge, it is the default action in my Win11 computers. It's the same with write.exe from Win3.1 and in C:\Windows folder, opens WordPad now.

Yes, that makes Edge run which makes the OP's CCTV application fail.

    Please note:

In case a compatibility issue does arise when moving from Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge, there’s the App Assure program.

The App Assure promise is this: if your web apps and sites work on Internet Explorer 11, supported versions of
Google Chrome, or any version of Microsoft Edge (including Microsoft Edge Legacy), those web apps and sites should
work on Microsoft Edge. If an issue arises, you can either request assistance or email us (ACHELP@microsoft.com) for
remediation support at no additional cost.

    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/...e/ba-p/2114756

Visit the App Assure page and sign in to submit your request for assistance for a dedicated App Assure Manager.
If you experience any issues submitting a request for assistance, please contact ACHELP@microsoft.com and our team members will reach out to you to help!
