Gmail - Use of Less Secure Apps Setting

I came across this notification while helping someone with Outlook using Gmail.

If it was already posted I apologize for the duplicate.

If I understand what is being described, the use of the setting in Gmail "Allow less Secure apps" is being dropped May 30, 2022.

It does not mention specific products by name but I would imagine some older mail clients fall in this category. Might be worth signing on to your Gmail account through a browser to determine if you currently have the setting enabled. When I checked the account I was working on the end date was also posted.

Good heads up. Also if you use 2FA you can't use less secure apps by default.

Same message here with Thunderbird. In Gmail account: uncheck use less secure apps. Enable in authorization OAuth 2.0. Enabling 2FA not needed.
In Thunderbird and possibly also in MS Outlook enable OAuth 2.0
Now I do not expect difficulties after May 30.

Browsers don't count as less secure apps.

Apps in this case are really "email clients" (programs) be they phone or computer based.

    Hi,

In my case Window Live Mail (WLM) is effected on all Gmail accounts , they've been going down 1 by 1 for a week.

Were you able to use app password to regain access?

Personally I knew this was coming , and as much as I prefer WLM to other Email Programs , it now has issues with Html Emails
etc etc, so I bit the bullet and got Office 2021 ($50) , since I hadn't upgrade Office since 2007, so am now using Outlook,
but that wasn't really needed since even the free Win10/11 built in Mail App can access Gmail just fine.

I guess this explains the sudden requirement for a password and failure of my client (Pop peeper) to access my gmail account the last 2 or 3 days (others fine). Anyway, seems to be back to normal now having fiddled with password settings a few times.

I know have 2 I can access again in WLM and 1 I can't and I'm not quite sure what the difference is, and 1 they haven't "blocked" yet from WLM
