When I did have my passwords in Edge, I copied and pasted to a rich field editor. Is there any way to import them into Edge?

from what I see importing requires CSV (comma separated values) file format.
I don't know the layout of format but once you figure it out you should convert your file to CSV which can then be imported.

Otherwise I suggest you to use password safe to handle passwords, it provides auto type feature among other things:

    I have the problem fixed.
I went to my settings and there was a RESTART button as the update I did a few weeks ago didn't finish.
I am now at Version 100.0.1185.44 (Official build) (64-bit).
I now have my passwords back and have the offer to save passwords turned on.
