    Prevent automatic import

    Greetings,

I've already tried asking this in Microsoft Answers.

Microsoft Edge (version 96.0.1054.62) keeps importing Internet Explorer favorites. It does this in the background and I don't get a notification when it happens. How can I prevent this? I've have sync turned off. I can't find another Edge setting related to this.

    Thanks,
    Shane.

    Hello @Shanester,

I have noticed that you have NOT had ANY replies, so I thought that I would try and help.

I noticed from the link that you posted that Greg Carmack - Windows MVP 2010-2020 posted . . .

If you're backing up Edge Favourites to the User Favourites folder that is where IE stores all Favourites at all times. If they're in IE they are in the User Favourites folder because that's where they live.
    Did this help at all?

I also noticed that you posted in the HP Community, but you did NOT get an answer.

It appears that it could be because there was an occasion where you did NOT have Edge Sync turned Off, whereby it automatically imported the Internet Explorer Favourites.

I did a bit of investigating for you and found these [ it took a while ], which might, or might NOT help . . .

    > How to Enable or Disable Import Favourites in Microsoft Edge
    > How to Manage Favourites on Microsoft Edge
    > Microsoft Caught Importing Data before you give the OK

    I hope thishelps.

The first link says that you can disable the ImportFavorites policy, but my Windows Home edition doesn't have Group Policy Editor. This shouldn't matter because Group Policy Editor stores everything in the Registry.

The documentation says the path is:

    SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge

but this doesn't exist yet in either HKCU or HKLM. I could create the key, but I'm a bit nervous about editing the Registry.

    Shane.
