    Firefox and Brave

What is the matter with FF? I have the feeling every week a new update (same with Thunderbird) which was not so frequent in the past. Why so frequent?
One of these updates removed the download button. Why?
It was not too difficult to get it back.
Going to a favourite Website, I always could download their pdf file.
Now a message appears: no download available. Why?
My solution; copying the URL in Brave and downloading
    I have now my pdf.

Are you using the release version 94.0.2? I haven't noticed release version to be updated overly frequently.

Some non-https sites will generate that message in Firefox. You can "allow" the download.

I have not noticed any changes to my tailored FF or TB over the last many months. Frequent update are fine, squashes bugs, and is virtually transparent. All good.

@steve108: my FF says up to date, version 94.0.2 (64 bit)
@Ghot: I am aware that non-https sites gives difficulties, but this site shows https.
    The site is: https://www.detransponder.nl/wp-cont...nk_2021_26.pdf
Message is: no downloads for this session.
I tried some changes in privacy/security settings to no avail.
As said: downloading this type of documents from the transponder site did not give problems in an earlier version; Brave has no difficulty downloading this document.
I only use Defender as anti-virus.

When I clicked on the URL that you provided, Firefox downloaded and displayed the pdf with no error message whatsoever.
    I'm using FF v94.0.2

My suspicion is that the problem might be caused by some FF setting that you've changed. For example, have you changed the Firefox General/Applications setting which tells Firefox what program should be used to display PDF files? I've left mine at the default, which is to have Firefox display PDF files. One can then use Firefox's RMB context menu to "Save Page As..." to save the PDF to a file.

To avoid a misunderstanding: the pdf displays on my screen without difficulties.
But in a previous version and with Brave, pressing the download button saved the pdf file as a file on the desktop.
That does not take place anymore

Well, solution is simpler than I thought. File>Save Page as saves the whole document on the desktop as pdf file.
But the download button does not do that anymore.

    I'm sorry, I guess I didn't understand your question...

For PDF files, all you need to do in Firefox, is open Settings and instruct Firefox to "Save" PDF files...

Then... just clicking on a PDF file will download it.

TBH, I don't actually remember ever seeing an explicit download button in Firefox. There might be an addon which generates such a button, though. For example, I know there's a Firefox Addon which often generates a download button when a Web page includes a link to a video file. It doesn't always work, though.

I have always used a Right-Mouse-Button click on any link which points to a file that I want to download. This generates a popup context menu which includes many options, usually (but not always) including "Save link as...". I tested this just now on the link provided and it worked fine. This RMB option doesn't work for YouTube videos, for example. Their links always point to an html page, not to the video file itself. Being able to download their videos is an extra-cost option. Might this be the case for the Web page where you found the PDF link?

@Ghot: I found this setting. It immediately downloads the pdf without showing the content on the screen. I do not think I like this, so I prefer the default setting and use "save page as".
@selden: by right-clicking in the bar, containing the addons, there is the option: customize toolbar. there you have the symbol arrow down with the text downloads. That I meant with download button.

Thanks you all for all reactions and additional info!
