Edge browser restore previous pages then suddenly opens new tab

Well Shawn I don't know if it is something to do with H2 update but I am experiencing an irritating function namely that after I access the Edge browser and restore previous pages the system then suddenly reverts to opening a new tab.
It is no big deal I suppose but irritating to have to close the new tab to get back to where I was before I rebooted or booted first thing in the morning.
I just use a PIN to open the machine and am wondering if I should change any settings to stop the above from happening.

Another problem with Edge has also turned up here! Now when I switch on each day I get TWO browsers! The first to appear (by a few seconds) is an Edge with just the New Tab open. The second is the browser I want with the 4 webpages I want to open.

Yesterday I closed the unnecessary browser, cleared out several tabs that appeared from earlier days (!!!) and opened only the four I wanted. Then went to Settings/Start home and new tabs and used Clear the list and set it to all currently open tabs
Today I got the two browsers again with all the extra tabs!

(As an extra treat, I still had to put in my password at Welcome screen even though I had changed all the settings back to those that worked in September to avoid having to login every day.)

I dread the thought of the damage that Win 11 is bound to cause.

PS After I had written this I went to Control Panel and selected Repair Edge under Edge/Change. When that finished this browser and pages stayed open but a NEW empty browser opened up in addition.

Despite various attempts to get rid of the second browser I haven't been able to affect it. I still get another, empty, browser opening at switch on.

    Try this
Settings/Accounts/Sign-in Options/ bottom of list Restart Apps set to Off.
Worked for me - no time now so more explanations tomorrow

Well I have the same situation only I get a new tab with a Restore Previous Pages option pop up in the top right hand corner if I click this it does restore those but leaves me with two Outlook (my start page) open so I shall try what you suggest.

Edit: have just checked mine and it is switched off so perhaps you got lucky.

I think it just goes to prove that there are far too many interreacting switches and far too few proper explanations of what they really do!
Today I got a complicated Edge update on a tab that was difficult to get rid of! But at least I only got one browser.-

The craziest thing is that this desktop is one of the latest models (2020) with quad processor, SSD, high end graphics card, 34" monitor etc. Its 2017predecessor is single, slow, CPU with HDD, onboard graphics etc that I leave in place, firing it up once a week as a backup. It has the same OS build and just quietly gets on with things. It slowly updates itself to all the Win 10 changes and has never ever failed to bring up the single browser or exhibit any of the update and configuration faults of this one.

    Go figure!

Yes I tend to agree mate there are too many switches in settings and I don't know about you but I get lost trying to navigate through them all.
My machine is also well featured being only two years old now so I don't know why I (we) should be getting these problems. As for the Edge settings where di you find them because I am only semi savvy when looking for them?

I not only get lost, but it is hard to see what changes are caused by interaction with earlier changes! It would be helpful to have a list of standard switch positions to better see what is happening.

Regarding Edge - top right at the end of the address bar are three little dots. They don't look anything more than decoration! Click on them and your get a dropdown menu that is quite long! Near the bottom is the option you want called Settings next to the usual gear wheel icon. Click on that and a new Tab opens with the address edge://settings/profiles. It is not a dropdown menu and has two sections. The left section contains all the setting options available and the right changes to allow any particular group of options to be changed.

It most cases just changing a selection makes the change immediately and there is no need to Save the change. The same to change it back. When finished, just close the Tab. You can see what every item controls by looking at them all in turn. You can't make a change by just looking!
